Joaquin and his Lovers

The joke to be made with Joaquin Phoenix and director James Gray teaming for the third time with the drama TWO LOVERS is too easy, even for me. OK, maybe not: Phoenix and Gray are TWO LOVERS!! Now that that unpleasantness is out of the way, Phoenix and Gwyneth Paltrow will in fact star in TWO LOVERS for Gray, who co-wrote the script with Ric Menello. The film would star Phoenix as a man torn between the family friend his parents want him to marry and the beautiful, yet slightly crazy, girl next story he falls madly in love with. It’s unclear which of the women Paltrow will play but she doesn’t strike me as slightly crazy. The film would reunite Phoenix and Gray who filmed both THE YARDS and the upcoming WE OWN THE NIGHT together. Phoenix has both NIGHT and RESERVATION ROAD on the way later this year. Paltrow can be seen next summer in IRON MAN and in her brother’s indie film THE GOOD NIGHT. Filming on TWO LOVERS is expected to begin this November in November.
