John Krasinski announces the start of shooting on A Quiet Place 2

People made a lot of noise about A QUIET PLACE when it came out last year, but for the cast and crew, it’s time to get back into silent mode and heed the words “All quiet on the set” like never before as shooting has begun on the anticipated sequel. Actor/director/co-writer on the first movie, John Krasinski, is back in the director’s chair for the new outing, and he took to social media to mark the start of the world’s most expensive edition of the quiet game ever.

Krasinski didn’t share any warm words or give away any juicy details about the sequel, only writing in the caption “#PartII” and sharing an image of the clapboard with the same words written on it. Is there really any use for one of those on this set? What with them being so un-quiet.

The original movie came out in April of last year to resounding critical acclaim, with critics praising the smart concept, the sound design, Krasinski’s direction, and Emily Blunt’s terrific performance. Riding the wave of acclaim and attention, the movie made $188 million domestically and over $340 million worldwide off a $30 million budget, making it perhaps the biggest surprise of the year. A sequel was quickly greenlit, and Blunt is set to return along with young stars Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe, with actors Cillian Murphy and Brian Tyree Henry joining the cast.

Krasinski spoke about his approach to the sequel back in November, saying he wanted to avoid typical sequel clichés and acknowledge the larger world that’s been affected by the invading creatures.

"[With A QUIET PLACE 2], we have the world. So it’s actually the world that’s built, it’s the idea that the rest of the world is going through this exact same experience. Are there other people that have to survive like this? It’s that idea of living through the set of circumstances, not again in the same way obviously, but exploring it more. You only got to do it intimately for a small amount of time, so what happens next?"

A QUIET PLACE 2 is set for March 20, 2020.
