Josh Trank exits Star Wars Anthology film

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

There had been rumours circling that not all was right behind-the-scenes of Josh Trank's STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY film, and the directors absence at Star Wars Celebration earlier this month did little to dispel them. He was scheduled to appear alongside fellow Star Wars director Gareth Edwards but cancelled once the event began by saying that he was sick. Now it seems as though those rumours are true as Josh Trank has just announced that he will exit the film.

Josh Trank's statement:

After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path. I’ve put a tremendous amount of thought into this, and I know deep down in my heart that I want to pursue some original creative opportunities. That said, the Star Wars universe has always been one of my biggest influences, and I couldn’t be more excited to witness its future alongside my millions of fellow Star Wars fans. I want to thank my friends Kathleen Kennedy, Kiri Hart, Simon Kinberg, and everyone at Lucasfilm and Disney for the amazing opportunity to have been a part of this. May the Force be with you all.

Kiri Hart, vice president of development at Lucasfilm, commented:

It was a privilege to collaborate with Josh. We are grateful for the energy and love of Star Wars that he brought to the process, and we wish him all the best.

Josh Trank was set to helm the second Star Wars spin-off, which is still scheduled to be released two years after Gareth Edwards' ROGUE ONE. There's no word yet who might replace the director but the official statement notes that "the Star Wars team is continuing to develop the project." Josh Trank's FANTASTIC FOUR will premiere on August 7, 2015.

It's time to play pick the director once again; who would you like to see take Trank's place?
