Luc Besson’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets begins production

Luc Besson, the filmmaker known for bringing to life LEON and THE FIFTH ELEMENT, is returning to to the realm of Sci-Fi with an adaption of the French comic, "Valerian and Laureline." Principle photography has begun in Paris on VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS. The story follows special operatives for the government of human territories, Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne), who are charged with maintaining order throughout the universe. The film also stars Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu, and is aiming for a theatrical release on July 21, 2017.

We're all used to seeing Besson's name attached to films as a producer, but it's great to see that the man is taking his expertise back behind the camera again. LUCY wasn't exactly the type of flick I was looking from the director, but there's no doubts that a lot of his quirky sensibilities are still intact. It certainly helps that he casts some great actors to work with! I can’t wait to see how he utilizes Clive Owe and Ethan Hawke! Taking everything into consideration, this will easily be one of my most hyped films of 2017!

VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS is scheduled to hit theaters on July 21, 2017.

Production has started and Luc Besson looks…happy.
