Tupac Shakur Biopic Benny Boom

A few months ago Carl Franklin was tapped to helm Morgan Creek's long-gestating Tupac Shakur biopic, but apparently he's no longer involved with the planned film, as THR is reporting that Benny Boom is now in talks to direct. Although Boom has helmed a couple of feature films (NEXT DAY AIR and S.W.A.T.: FIREFIGHT), he's more known for his music video and commercial directing.

Besides Franklin, Antoine Fuqua and John Singleton were also previously attached to direct, and Singleton wrote on his Instagram that “The people involved aren't really respectful of the legacy of Tupac,” after he left the biopic earlier this year.

While the project may have found a new director, Morgan Creek is in danger of losing the the music rights, because they will revert back to Tupac Shakur's mother Afeni Shakur if the film isn't in production by the end of the year. With Boom more than likely set to direct, there should be a casting announcement in the very near future, as well as a filming start date.
