Netflix severs Golden Globes party partnership with The Weinstein Company

For the past several years, Netflix and The Weinstein Company have co-hosted a post-Golden Globes party together, with TWC serving as the primary presenter. On Wednesday, Netflix announced that they will be severing their partnership with The Weinstein Company, and will instead host the event themselves. The decision to part ways comes as yet another domino to come tumbling down for TWC, in the wake of Harvey Weinstein being accused of performing several acts of sexual harassment and assault toward dozens of female clients and staff.

In issuing a statement to Deadline Hollywood, Netflix stated, "We have no plans to partner with other studios for upcoming events."

It's to be understood why Netflix would wish to end their partnership with TWC for the event, especially when you consider how toxic the Weinstein brand is, right now. It's not like Netflix doesn't have the wherewithal to throw a good party, and with the streaming company growing even bigger this past year, I see no reason for them not to branch out during the upcoming awards season by hosting their own Hollywood shindig.

The Golden Globes will event is set for January 7, 2018.
