If WRECK-IT RALPH and THE LEGO MOVIE are any indication, audiences dig films that make them feel like a kid again, especially when childhood favorite games are utilized. Chris Columbus (HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE, HOME ALONE) aims to take advantage of that wave of nostalgia with his latest picture, PIXELS. The story will revolve around aliens that misinterpret video-feeds of classic arcade games as a declaration of war. In retaliation, they attack the Earth using the games as models for their assaults. Naturally a team of video game champions, led by Adam Sandler, Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage (sporting a gnarly mullet), will team up to save the planet. We've already seen a list of which classic arcade games make an appearance but now Sony has released a few posters that actually show us.

Check out the old school:

I'm curious to see if this is how Pac-Man and co. will look in the film, although going for that "pixelated" appearance is a safe bet to keep the effects vibrant without having to worry about any semblance of realism. Well, as real as you can get an over-sized Pac-man to look. Adam Sandler is not on everyone's favorites list at the moment, but that's probably one of the reasons I'm interested in seeing PIXELS. Josh Gad and Peter Dinklage have proven to be great supporting comedic actors in FROZEN and KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM respectively, so hopefully this inspires Sandler.  Who knows? Director Chris Columbus may have something fun on his hands with this one!

PIXELS will be released on July 24, 2015.
