Patrick Stewart on X-Men: Days of Future Past and the return of Charles Xavier

Patrick Stewart

Even if Patrick Stewart never played Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek franchise I would still love the guy. He's a very impressive stage actor and he's always been incredibly funny and witty in the interviews I've seen with the him. He apparently just wrapped up filming his part in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST and at Comicpalooza the actor commented a little on the mega mutant movie.

At the event Patrick Stewart said that the new film will not only be the biggest X-MEN movie yet but will also (possibly) be the biggest film of next year:

I think it is going to certainly be the X-Men of all X-Men pictures, and one doesn't want to tempt fate, but perhaps also the blockbuster of 2014. It was a wonderful experience to reunited with those people.

This next part is a little bit of a spoiler so you may want to avoid it if you want to go into X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST knowing absolutely nothing. You've been warned.

When we last saw Professor X his conscious was in the body of his twin at the end of X-MEN: LAST STAND. So would it be that Professor X that we'll see in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST or the "original" Professor since time travel will be used in the new film? Sounds like it's going to be time travel:

"It's been 6 or 7 years since X-Men 3, where you will recall that Charles Xavier was vaporized by whats-her-name, Jean Grey. And you're asking yourselves, 'If you were vaporized, how can you be in the next X-Men movie?' Anybody got any ideas how that came about?" One audience member yelled out "Time travel," to which Stewart responded: "Yeah, that's exactly it. I guess. There will be an explanation, but it was a little puzzling for me because I thought my X-Men days were over. So, it's something to look forward to."

The "whats-her-name" line is just hilarious in my opinion.

So if Charles Xavier is also appearing at the end of this summer's THE WOLVERINE it might be a real big surprise for Logan when he sees the professor. I wonder if that scene will hint that time travel was used and that he needs Wolverine’s help saving the future or if it'll just be Xavier pretty much saying, "I'm back, bitch!"

You can check out the video of Patrick Stewart speaking at Comicpalooza about X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST below. I don't know about most of you but I'm pretty sure I could listen to Patrick Stewart talk for hours.

X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Halle Berry, and Peter Dinklage will be in theaters on July 18th, 2014.
