Patty Jenkins wants Wonder Woman 2 to take place in America

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

The bubbly is still flowing at DC as they celebrate the success of WONDER WOMAN over the past weekend as the superhero film reaped a fantastic $100 million opening. It’s only been a few days since the release and already people are begging for details about WONDER WOMAN 2, of which director Patty Jenkins is happy to reveal…in very, very, very, very, very small doses.

While talking with EW about where the sequel could potentially go Jenkins revealed she wants the film to take place in the good ol’ U.S. of A. after WOMAN spent all its time in Themyscira and Europe:

The story will take place in the U.S., which I think is right. She’s Wonder Woman. She’s got to come to America. It’s time.

Last week it was announced that director Patty Jenkins was signed on for a second film and that the sequel could take place in a contemporary setting. Though Jenkins will return and has at least some idea where to take the character, producer Charles Roven said that as of now there is nothing written down for the sequel.

Given the movie’s massive success Warner Bros. will be likely to move fast on a sequel, and though Jenkins doesn’t see herself as an “obligation person” when taking on projects, she does feel like WONDER WOMAN 2 can be “its own great movie” like the first:

I made Wonder Woman. Now I want to make Wonder Woman 2. It’s a beautiful story to tell, an important time to tell it and with people that I love.

I saw the movie this weekend, as I’m sure most of you did, and much like everyone else I was blown away. Gadot was perfect, Jenkins did a marvelous job staying true to Diana’s spirit and strength, and the movie as a whole was perfectly executed entertainment. A sequel will have a rough time topping it, but with the same team at the helm I’m sure they can continue to tell the story of Diana with beauty and plenty of slo-mo action.

WONDER WOMAN is in theaters now, and you owe it to yourself to see it. Don't be so selfish and do something for yourself every now and again! Jeez…
