Reese pops the pills

Reese Witherspoon, one of the most straight-edged actresses working today, to star in a film written by the guys who wrote BAD SANTA and I LOVE YOU PHILLIP MORRIS, a film so graphic no studio would touch it? Yup. Witherspoon is producing and attached to star in PHARM GIRL, a comedy written by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, the aforementioned writers who are also in talks to direct. While Ficarra and Requa are best known for their over-the-top comedies, they also wrote the kiddie flick CATS AND DOGS so I’m guessing PHARM GIRL will be less on “fucksticks” and prison rape and more on traditional Witherspoon humor. The film would star Reese as a woman who gets a job at a large pharmaceutical company and is shocked to see the seedy underbelly of the industry. (Would anyone out there really be surprised to learn that the drug industry is seedy?) It’s unclear where the project, set up at Universal, is on Witherspoon’s priority list but she’s also attached to the Ben Stiller comedy USED GUYS, the book adaptation NICE, Cameron Crowe’s next film and Alexander Payne’s DOWNSIZING.
