Rumor: Wonder Woman 2 may take place during the Cold War

Wonder Woman 2 rumor

If you haven't yet seen WONDER WOMAN, beware of MAJOR SPOILERS. Warner Bros. has got to be pretty damn pleased with WONDER WOMAN; not only is the flick making plenty of money at the box-office, but it has also received the best reviews of the DCEU by far. Needless to say, the studio is keen to get the ball rolling on a sequel to WONDER WOMAN as soon as possible. Development on the sequel is still in the very early stages and Patty Jenkins hasn't yet officially signed on to direct (although all signs point to yes), but that doesn't mean that rumours can't begin flying as to the direction the sequel will take.

According to ScreenRant, the WONDER WOMAN sequel will jump forward several decades past the events of the first film to the 1980's, where Diana Prince (Gal Gadot) will battle against the forces of the Soviet Union during the closing days of the Cold War. ScreenRant also claims that Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) will be returning for the sequel as well, which, and here's where that spoiler warning comes in, is somewhat of a mystery considering that the last time we saw Steve, he was sacrificing himself in order to save the day. Folks don't typically walk away from an exploding plane kilometers above the ground, but hey, anything can happen in the world of comic-books. If you're hearing a beeping sound, don't worry, it's simply a garbage truck's worth of salt being dumped on your doorstep.

DC Films co-chairman Geoff Johns began writing the treatment for the sequel with Patty Jenkins not too long after the release of WONDER WOMAN, teasing that "they've got a cool idea for the second one." So, although there may be ideas floating around out there, it's still incredibly early in the process and there's so much that could change by the time the WONDER WOMAN sequel hits theaters. Don't believe everything you hear.

What are your hopes for the WONDER WOMAN sequel and what time-period would you like to see it take place in?
