Russo Brothers comic adaptation of Deadly Class gets Syfy pilot order

You guys, I think my head might explode before I finish bringing you this news. One of my favorite comic book series of the past few years, DEADLY CLASS, has just received a pilot order from Syfy! Oh yeah, and to sweeten the deal, Joe and Anthony Russo (CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR) are on-board to produce. The hard-boiled indie comic book series from writer Rick Remender (Uncanny X-Force, Black Science) and artist Wes Craig will be adapted for the small screen by Remender himself and Miles Feldsott. Meanwhile, Sony Pictures TV Studios will co-produce the pilot with Syfy sibling Universal Cable Prods.

Official comic book synopsis for DEADLY CLASS:

It’s 1987. Marcus Lopez hates school. His grades suck. He has no money. The jocks are hassling his friends. He can't focus in class, thanks to his mind constantly drifting to the stunning girl in the front row and the Dag Nasty show he has tickets to. But the jocks are the children of Joseph Stalin's top assassin, the teachers are members of an ancient league of assassins, the class he’s failing is "Dismemberment 101," and his crush, a member of the most notorious crime syndicate in Japan, has a double-digit body count. Welcome to the most brutal high school on Earth, where the world’s top crime families send the next generation of assassins to be trained. Murder is an art. Killing is a craft. At King’s Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts, the dagger in your back isn’t always metaphorical, nor is your fellow classmates' poison.

Remender and Feldsott will serve as the show's executive produces alongside Joe Russo, Anthony Russo and Mike Larocca from Russo Brothers Productions as well as Adam Targum (BANSHEE) of Chipmunk Hill, who will direct, and Lee Toland Krieger, who will serve as showrunner.

I'm freaking out over here, you guys! Ever since I read the very first issue of DEADLY CLASS, back in January of 2014, I've been saying that the book needs to become a television show. With the Russo Brothers attached to the project, I don't see how this can fail. Personally, I love that indie comic book properties are steadily becoming a thing in Hollywood. There is so much untapped potential there from series like Saga to Terry Moore's Rachel Rising, Donny Cate's God Country and more! With the pilot set, it shouldn't be long before casting announcements begin to roll out and class is officially in session.

Extra Tidbit: DEADLY CLASS is a brutal comic book for sure. I hope that Syfy allows the creators to get real nasty with this one.
