The cast of Mary Poppins Returns to receive Palm Springs Film Festival honor

The 30th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival has announced that the cast of MARY POPPINS RETURNS will receive the event's Ensemble Performance Award at this year's Awards gala. The cast joins previously announced nominees Timothée Chalamet, Glenn Close, Olivia Colman, Bradley Cooper, Alfonso Cuarón, Regina King, Spike Lee, Rami Malek, and Melissa McCarthy and THE GREEK BOOK for an award designed to recognize the stellar chemistry and charisma of a group of actors in a major motion picture. In the past, winners of the prestigious honor have included Best Picture winner ARGO, as well as Best Picture nominees AMERICAN HUSTLE, THE BIG SHORT, HIDDEN FIGURES, THE IMITATION GAME, and THE SOCIAL NETWORK.

The comedic family fantasy's director, Rob Marshall, will be present the award to his cast at the festival's Film Awards Gala on January 3rd at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Poppins cast members Emily Blunt, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Salah and Joel Dawson are expected to attend, with the event itself being hosted by Mary Hart and Entertainment Tonight, and presented by American Express.

Mary Poppins Returns is a happy film, that re-creates the magic and adventure of the first film,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “In this outstanding sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family as they race to keep the bank’s executives from foreclosing on their home.  Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda lead an excellent ensemble cast that also includes Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Dick Van Dyke, Angela Lansbury and many others. The Palm Springs International Film Festival is proud to present the cast of Mary Poppins Returns with the Ensemble Performance Award.”

MARY POPPINS RETURNS takes place several years after the uncanny nanny's original visit, when she returns to the Banks siblings and Michael's children through a difficult time in their lives. The live-action/CGI spectacle stars Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, Joel Dawson, Julie Walters, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, and Dick Van Dyke.
