OUR PICKS FOR November 19th - November 25th

Wanna watch something....for fans of THE NIGHT MANAGER?

THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL (Premieres November 19th on AMC)The works of John Le Carre have had great success on the big screen (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY), but the complex narratives and characters just beg for the event series treatment. After AMC had a critical hit with The Night Manager, they are bringing a very different spy story to the network with this thriller starring Florence Pugh, Michael Shannon, and Alexander Skarsgard. Slow-moving but still very engaging, this is the anti-James Bond story. Check out the full review here.

Wanna watch something....if you like VIKINGS?

THE LAST KINGDOM (Premieres November 19th on Netflix) - There are quite a few historical action dramas on the small screen these days. Entering it's third season is this BBC/Netflix series about the rise and fall of the Anglo-Saxons in ancient Britain. Think of this as a companion series to Vikings in that it shows the other side of the war. I didn't even realize this show existed until this week but it looks pretty good.

Wanna watch something....if you like the current host of The Daily Show?

TREVOR NOAH: SON OF PATRICIA (Premieres November 20th on Netflix) - When Jon Stewart left The Daily Show, many viewers left with him. In the years since, host Trevor Noah has gained comfort in the role and brought his own unique comic timing to the satirical look at politics. If you would rather see him tackle something other than Trump and the Senate, check out his new Netflix special. Yeah, there will still be cultural and political commentery, but it will also touch on his family history and give you a good sense of how funny he really is.

Wanna watch something....if you like Kurt Russell holly and jolly?

THE CHRISTMAS CHRONICLES (Premieres November 22nd on Netflix)I am always a sucker for Kurt Russell in a leading role. There is a very high likelihood this movie is going to suck ass, but I am holding out hope that it will be a holiday-themed version of BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA or ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. I know, I am being silly, but part of me thinks this could still be a fun flick. Hell, it doesn't cost you anything if you already pay for Netflix, so why not give it a shot?

Wanna watch something....perfect for binging on Thanksgiving?

MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 (Premieres November 22nd on Netflix) - This year marks the 30th anniversary of MST3K and to celebrate we get six all new episodes featuring the new cast including Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt. To drive home just how awesome it is getting new MST3K, recognize that this season they will be ripping apart MAC AND ME. That's right! This just became must see television!

Wanna watch something....you didn't know starred Jason Momoa?

FRONTIER (Premieres November 23rd on Netflix) - Remember just a few paragraphs up how I mentioned the glut of historical TV shows? Here is another one, also on Netflix, that is also entering it's third season. Starring Jason Momoa (AQUAMAN), this series is set during the early days of British colonization and gives us some badass indigineous people fighting back against their oppressors. Yeah, how did I not know about this show either? With two seasons to binge in advance, this could be a nice sleeper hit if you need a new show in your life.

Wanna watch something....based on a true crime podcast?

DIRTY JOHN (Premieres November 25th on Bravo) - When you finish the new season of Serial and Making a Murderer, check out this dramatized take on the popular podcast Dirty John. Starring Connie Britton and Eric Bana, this looks like a nice reverse FATAL ATTRACTION made all the creepier because it is a true story. I know "true stories" are a dime a dozen, but this one actually looks like the first quality original series Bravo has had in a long time. Plus, Eric Bana often gets a raw deal so I hope this one brings him back to prominence as an actor.

Wanna watch something....for fans of the FAST AND FURIOUS franchise?

PAUL WALKER: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS (Premieres November 25th on Reelz) - Like an E True Hollywood Story but less sensational, Reelz biography series tackles Hollywood and beyond. This week they are centering on the tragically short life of Paul Walker. His life story has already been adapted as the feature documentary I AM PAUL WALKER, but die hard fans may find this additional glimpse into his life a nice reminder of the actor.
