Will Guy Ritchie’s follow-up to the Sherlock Holmes films be Sgt. Rock?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Guy Ritchie (SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS) is being linked to Nazi pulverizer SGT. ROCK once again. The Brit filmmaker was attached to the project years ago before he dropped out and CONSTANTINE director Francis Lawrence was brought in. The project had also shifted periods, taking the action from the original WWII era into the distant future.

But now, Twitch is reporting that Warner Bros. and Joel Silver are handing the reins back to Ritchie, and that thankfully, the film will be going back to the character’s WWII Nazi-bashing roots. Ritchie is also said to be supervising the current draft of the screenplay.

SGT. ROCK is supposedly being lined up as Ritchie’s follow-up to SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS. If true, that means the Warren Ellis EXCALIBUR project will probably be put on Ritchie’s backburner for the time being. And if SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 is a success like the first film and Ritchie is game (or contractually obligated) for a third, I’d expect that to happen after SGT. ROCK.
