Zombie’s The Blob

DVD cover for the 1958 BLOB Criterion edition

Another remake of Steve McQueen’s delicious 1958 campfest THE BLOB has been kicked around for a few years it seems, and someone’s finally been put in charge: none other than Rob Zombie, presumably to turn that one into a franchise too.

The original McQueen B-classic and its 1988 remake were about a big ball of Jello from space terrorizing a small village, something Zombie wants to part with right off the bat. “My intention is not to have a big red blobby thing — that’s the first thing I want to change,” Rob claimed. “I intend to make it scary, and the great thing is I have the freedom once again to take it in any crazy direction I want to.” Quick question: why call it The Blob if it’s anything but? I don’t mind creativity, but might as well do something original entirely…  just saying.

Zombie is apparently already writing the script himself, which he intends to have completed with by the time he’s done touring for his upcoming album. He’s still making music? Well,… noise? In the meantime, his second HALLOWEEN is in theaters tonight, which is exactly where I won’t be. Not because it looks bad -I wouldn’t know, nor care- but because I’m a big pussy. Hey, at least I admit it!

Speaking of HALLOWEEN, just in time for the film’s release comes those damn funny 30-second Bunnies taking on the original film. Enjoy, right down here.
