A new trailer for Morbius has been released and it’s bound to excite or confuse fans as it references Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man.

The latest look at Morbius features newspaper headlines that reference both Rhino and Black Cat, who appeared in Andrew Garfield’s second outing as the web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. There is also an Oscorp building with the same Oscorp logo featured in the Garfield film. Adding more to this potential multiverse storytelling, the newspaper has the same Daily Bugle logo that was seen in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

Morbius has already teased a connection to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man as Michael Keaton’s Adrian Toomes aka Vulture, who appeared in the MCU’s Spider-Man: Homecoming will be making an appearance. Given the fact the Daily Bugle is also mentioned and referenced, I’m assuming J. Jonah Jameson exists in this universe as well, and J.K. Simmons famously played the role in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films, with Tobey Maguire in the lead, and we all know he has popped up in the MCU as well playing Jameson briefly in Spider-Man: Far From Home. So many Easter eggs and so much to dissect! Beyond all of the references, we go get to see more of Jared Leto in vampire mode and he actually looks pretty solid.

Morbius suffered several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film’s original release date was July 10, 2020, which was then shifted to July 31, 2020. From there the film was pushed to Match 19, 2021, and then to October 8, 2021. After that delay, the film saw another release date shift to January 21, 2022, and from there Morbius was moved one last time to its current date of January 28, 2022. In the film, Michael Morbius (Jared Leto) becomes a vampire after attempting to cure himself of a rare blood disease. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the cast also includes Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson.
