Guillermo del Toro‘s Nightmare Alley may have been a miss at the box office when it was released last December but the film seems to be finding more viewership after being beginning streaming on HBO Max, per Samba TV.

According to Samba TV, Alley was watched by 1.2 million U.S. households in its first six days of streaming on HBO Max. Keep in mind, Samba TV is a third-party service and doesn’t track all of the data from streaming viewership so it’s possible that Nightmare Alley is performing even better than this number indicates. Nightmare Alley was released on December 17, 2021, to generally positive reviews from critics but flopped at the box office, grossing a total of $30 million worldwide against a $60 million production budget. Despite the lack of attention from audiences during its theatrical run, the film kept a foothold in the minds of Oscar voters, recently being nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Perhaps the recent nominations got people interested in checking out the noir remake, and it appears that streaming is where Nightmare Alley will find a new life and hopefully more eyes will discover this truly fascinating film.
