Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show is still in development phase according to director

Although it seemed like the Obi-Wan Kenobi series at Disney+ hit a huge speed bump earlier this year, director Deborah Chow says that the project is still in the development phase at the streamer.

Deborah Chow appeared on a panel for The Mandalorian at the virtual edition of the ATX Television Festival. The subject of the Obi-Wan series came up and Chow confirmed that they are still working on getting everything together behind the scenes. Chow said, "We have a little more to do than that, but we're in development."

Production on the long-awaited project was expected to begin this year but everything was halted very suddenly in January with the all too familiar reason being "creative differences." Rumors started to swirl that the project was in danger of being scrapped but Ewan McGregor, while promoting BIRDS OF PREY, quickly shot down those rumors and said that Lucasfilm was just taking the time to retool things behind the scenes.

Hossein Amini was originally brought on to pen the series but it was revealed in April that Joby Harold had taken over writing duties. As of now, Ewan McGregor is the only confirmed cast member after playing the role in George Lucas' STAR WARS prequel trilogy. Deborah Chow is on board to direct every episode of the series as previously helming multiple episodes of The Mandalorian.

I actually think it's a good thing that they're taking their time with the project and not just rushing to crank out another potentially popular STAR WARS series. Disney+ has had success with The Mandalorian so I think fans will be expecting something on that level and if more time is needed to get there, so be it.

Are YOU looking forward to the Obi-Wan series on Disney+?
