The Anne Rice novels The Vampire Lestat and The Queen of the Damned are excellent reads that could make for an incredible viewing experience if they were properly and faithfully adapted for the screen. Instead, ideas lifted from the two books were just slapped together for the 2002 film Queen of the Damned (watch it HERE), the movie we’re looking at in the latest episode of our video series Awfully Good Horror Movies. Check it out in the embed above!

Directed by Michael Rymer from a screenplay by Scott Abbott and Michael Petroni, Queen of the Damned has the following synopsis:

The legendary vampire Lestat has reinvented himself as a rock star in the contemporary American music scene. His music wakes Akasha, the queen of all vampires, and inspires her desire to make Lestat her king. Akasha’s malevolent power is so great that all the immortal vampires must stand against her if they want to survive. Meanwhile, a young London woman with a fascination for the dark side falls in love with Lestat.

The film stars Stuart Townsend, Aaliyah, Marguerite Moreau, Vincent Pérez, Lena Olin, Paul McGann, Christian Manon, Claudia Black, Bruce Spence, Matthew Newton, and Pia Miranda. Jonathan Davis of Korn provided Lestat’s singing voice.
