Rob Marshall announced as top contender to helm Disney’s The Little Mermaid

News related to Disney's planned live-action adaptation of THE LITTLE MERMAID has bubbled to the surface, today, with Rob Marshall being named as the studio's top choice to direct the feature-length film. If all goes well, Marshall will be joined by Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, as the duo aim to create new songs for the Miranda and Marc Platt-produced venture. For the moment, Deadline is reporting that Marshall has been offered the gig, and will announce his decision after the forthcoming holiday season.

Most recently, Mashall helmed MARY POPPINS RETURNS for Disney, which stars Emily Mortimer, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Angela Lansbury and Dick Van Dyke. My guess is that the House of Mouse is quite pleased with Marshall's efforts on that film, as Ariel's live-action debut is sure to draw an obscene amount of attention, once the ball gets rolling on casting news and trailer drops.

Prepare to be fitted for your mouse ears, folks, because Disney is making big moves in 2017. In addition to the possibility of the company closing in on a deal to acquire Fox-related properties, Disney also has live-action adaptations of their animated classics like ALADDIN and THE LION KING on deck and ready to suck the lifeblood from of your wallet. My advice: Just turn around, take their hand, and slip away.
