TCM does Last man

My all time favorite Vincent Price film will be
gracing the screen tomorrow night as TCM Underground shows off the 1964
masterpiece THE LAST MAN ON EARTH.

Many of you may be familiar with this film, especially since the book that it’s
based on, I am Legend by Richard Matheson, is once again being redone on film
with Will Smith taking the place of Vincent Price.

For those of you unfamiliar with the work of Matheson or this film, here’s how
the story goes: A strange plague hits the earth and turns
the survivors into vampires, with the exception of Robert Morgan, a scientist
who many years before contracted a fever that made him immune to the plague.
Morgan’s daily routine is to clear the streets of dead bodies and to seek out
the vampires, who sleep by day, and drive stakes through their hearts. At night
he wards off the roaming vampires with mirrors and garlic.

I know that I say this a lot, but if you ever take my recommendation about
seeing a movie, let this be the one. Price is at his best here, and the film,
which does differ slightly from the book, still brings Matheson’s story to life
in an extraordinary way. (I am Legend is also my favorite book of all time, so
you know that I must mean this!)
