Earlier this morning, Tessa Thompson, who plays the Asgardian female warrior Valkyrie in Taika Waititi's THOR: RAGNAROK, unleashed a tweet that's got indie comic book fans clamoring for her desired comic-related role to become a reality. For those of you who've read Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples enigmatic and hyper-sexual sci-fi comic series SAGA, you'll recognize the above image as one of Alana, the female lead in an epic love story featuring killer robots, masturbating dragons, anthropomorphic seals, and aliens unlike you've ever seen.
After posting the tantilizing photo, Thompson released another post in which she claimed to be "obsessed" with SAGA, and that stepping into the role of Alana for any future projects related to the material would be "so dreamy." You know what, Tessa? I whole-heartedly agree with you. In fact, hand me a phone, and just tell me who I need to schmooze to make this happen.

Here's an official synopsis for the SAGA comic book series from Image Comics, the publisher that distributes the delightfully trashy and emotionally-crippling comic:
Saga is an epic space opera/fantasy comic book series created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Fiona Staples, published monthly by Image Comics. The series is heavily influenced by Star Wars, and based on ideas Vaughan conceived both as a child and as a parent. It depicts two lovers from long-warring extraterrestrial races, Alana and Marko, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their newborn daughter, Hazel, who occasionally narrates the series.
In the past, both Vaughan and Staples have gone on the record by saying that they have no desire to see their book adapted into a film of television series, so Thompson's desire to cruise the cosmos as Alana might be all for naught. However, stranger things have happened, and I'd like to think that if a project were to be developed that both Vaughan and Staples would keep Tessa in mind for the role.
Understand this: I would die if a Saga film or television series were to be announced. I happen to think that it's one of the greatest comic book series of all time and I could totally imagine someone like Patty Jenkins or Denis Villeneuve taking the helm. Honestly though, my dream casting for that endeavor would be Rosario Dawson as Alana, Oscar Issac as Marko, Tom Hiddleston as Prince Robot, and Maisie Williams as Izabel the Caregiver.
