Shutter 2004 (buy it HERE) co-writer/director Banjong Pisanthanakun and The Wailing (watch that HERE) writer/director Na Hong-jin have joined forces for the supernatural horror film The Medium, which will be released through the Shudder streaming service on October 14th. A week ahead of the release date, we’ve gotten our hands on the The Medium trailer, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Banjong directed The Medium from a screenplay he wrote with Na, who also produced the film. Here’s the synopsis:

A documentary team follows Nim, a shaman based in Northern Thailand, the Isan area, and encounters her niece Mink showing strange symptoms that seem to be of inheritance of shamanism. The team decides to follow Mink, hoping to capture the shaman lineage passing on to the next generation, but her bizarre behavior becomes more extreme.

The film stars Sawanee Utoomma, Narilya Gulmongkolpech, and Sirani Yankittikan.

The Medium is the first film Na has produced under his new banner, Northern Cross. The film was released in South Korea this past summer, and as it right now it ranks as the 6th highest-grossing Korean film of the year.

Shudder will be streaming the film exclusively in the US, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Does The Medium sound like something you’d like to watch? Are you a fan of Bangjong and/or Na? Let us know by leaving a comment below. I haven’t watched The Wailing yet – I really need to get around to doing that, because I’ve heard great things about the movie – but I have watched Shutter and enjoyed it more than I expected to. So I’ll watch The Medium, but only after I’ve caught up on The Wailing.

Here’s the film’s poster for you to take a look at on your way down to the comments section:
