Raise your horns as well as your goblet of rock because Cynthia Erivo is about to take center stage for Searchlight's The Rose.

The project is a remake of the 1979 Twentieth Century Fox musical romantic drama. It follows Rose, a self-destructive female rock star who struggles to deal with the constant pressures of her career and the demands of those around her. While paying attention to its original roots, the remake will embrace a contemporary setting and the acts of self-sacrifice that come with fame. With her extensive musical background, the Grammy and Tony Award-winning Erivo is well-equipped for the role.

Searchlight is currently on the hunt for a writer and has set Creative Executive Cornelia Burleigh to oversee the project.

After lighting up the screen with a starring role in Kasi Lemmons' Harriet and stunning audiences in HBO's The Outsider, Erivo will soon appear in Doug Liman's Chaos Walking. That film also stars Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley as two unlikely companions who embark on a perilous adventure through the badlands of an unexplored planet. You can also catch Erivo as Aretha Franklin in the National Geographic TV series Genius, which shares the life stories of history's greatest minds.
