Children of the Corn: Runaway John Gulager

A couple years ago, Dimension Films put low budget sequels to the HELLRAISER and CHILDREN OF THE CORN franchises into production in an effort to hold on to the rights. After making it through the typical Dimension delays as well as a scandal that shook things up at the studio, both films will be hitting DVD and Blu-ray in the next couple months, courtesy of Lionsgate.

A couple weeks ago, we learned that HELLRAISER: JUDGMENT,  written and directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe, will be released on February 13th. Now Lionsgate has announced that director John Gulager's CHILDREN OF THE CORN: RUNAWAY will be coming out one month later, on March 13th. With this announcement comes the unveiling of the film's trailer and case art, which can be seen below.

Counting the 2009 remake, this is the tenth film in the CHILDREN OF THE CORN series. Written by Joel Soisson, the story of RUNAWAY follows

a young pregnant woman who escapes a murderous child cult in a small Midwestern town. She then spends the next decade living anonymously in an attempt to spare her son the horrors that she experienced as a child. She lands in the small Oklahoma town… but something is following her. Now, she must confront this evil or lose her child.

The film stars Marci Miller, JR Hatchett, Lynn Andrews III, Gavin Taylor, Blaine Maye, Mary Kathryn Bryant, and Jake Ryan Scott.

I enjoy the HELLRAISER films well enough and will be checking out JUDGMENT as soon as possible, but of these two franchises CHILDREN OF THE CORN is the one I find to be more entertaining, so RUNAWAY is the one I'm really looking forward to. I will be putting in my pre-order soon – and if you would like to do the same, you can do so on Amazon
