Fox orders more episodes of Ghosted, hires new showrunner

Ghosted Adam Scott Craig Robinson

Fox's "comedic X-Files" series Ghosted is a show I'm very interested in checking out, but I just haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Seven episodes of its initial ten episode order have already aired, with the eighth set to reach airwaves this Sunday.

Fox has now ordered six more episodes for the season, bringing the total up to sixteen. This new order does come with a behind-the-scenes shake-up, though. Showrunner Kevin Etten is exiting the series and will be replaced by former The Office showrunner Paul Lieberstein (who also played the memorable character Toby on that show).

Word is that Fox wants to bring "a tonal shift" to Ghosted in these six new episodes, which is why they're changing showrunners. The idea here is that Lieberstein's Office experience makes him the perfect choice to "ground" Ghosted as "more of a workplace comedy".

Starring Craig Robinson and Adam Scott, Ghosted was created by Tom Gormican and follows

a cynical skeptic (Robinson) and a genius “true believer” in the paranormal (Scott) who are recruited by a secret government agency to look into the rampant “unexplained” activity in Los Angeles — all while uncovering a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of the human race.

It will be interesting to see how much the show changes under Lieberstein, but before I can evaluate a change I'm going to have to catch up with the episodes that already exist.
