Monster movie Rites of Spring finally starts filming this month

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

When was the last time we heard anything about Padraig Reynolds’ RITES OF SPRING? Wall that was actually way back in April of 2008! That’s two years ladies and gents! Two entire years without so much as a whisper from this flick! So what’s the deal?

Well today we’ve finally got something of an update from the MCHerald from Madison County, Mississippi. …. Let’s just run with it. See the article drops the news that RITES OF SPRING will be shooting in Canton, Mississippi from April 12th through May 3rd. Finally! It only took two years! Filming locations will include the town’s high school and cemetery. But that’s not all! This article is loaded with details on RITES OF SPRING so try and keep up!

It seems the film ‘was originally set to be shot on the Gulf Coast last year, but the location was dropped because the vision for the scenes didn’t match up with the natural scenery.’ So there’s the explanation for what’s been taking this thing so long!

The film, which is described as a ‘low budget monster movie,’ is about a ransom scheme that turns into a nightmare for a group of kidnappers who become victims of a horrifying secret that must be paid every spring. A monster movie huh? Sounds quite different than the ‘father versus serial killer’ plot we heard about two years ago. Hell to be honest I’m liking this creature feature idea better! And the kicker? THE INCREDIBLE HULK’s Aaron Sims is creating said creature! Nice!

We also learn that filmmaker Padraig Reynolds is planning on shopping RITES OF SPRING out to festivals within the next year. But that’s not all! It seems RITES producer Wes Benton also has ideas to make RITES OF SPRING into a trilogy! Man, the hits just keep on coming! They’ve even got a release date pegged for RITES OF SPRING: March 22, 2011! Just in time for Spring!

And the last bit of news we have for you regarding RITES OF SPRING is a list of relative unknowns making up the cast of the film: Vickie McNeill, Hannah Bryan, Andrew Breland, Katherine Randolph, Shanna Forrestall, Marco St. John, Sarah Pachelli and Skylar Burkes. Casting is still going on.

So there you have it! A pretty jam-packed update for you all regarding Padraig Reynolds’ RITES OF SPRING. Now that we’ve got all the details… what do you think? You feeling RITES OF SPRING? I’m definitely up for a decent creature feature so I’ll be keeping an eye out for more on this one. What says you guys?
