Scifi film Ready Player One says it's Matrix meets Willy Wonka meets Avatar

Well here's an intriguing little project coming at us from FANBOYS writer Ernie Cline.. Apparently the scribe is working on a young-adult sci-fi novel called READY PLAYER ONE that Warner Bros have just snatched the rights to, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog.

Now that's all fine and dandy - nothing out of the ordinary. But wait until I tell you what this one is about...

In the near future, outcast teenager Wade Watts escapes from his bleak surroundings by logging in to the Oasis, a globally networked virtual utopia where users can lead idyllic alternate lives. When the eccentric billionaire who created the Oasis dies, he offers up his vast fortune as the prize in an elaborate treasure hunt. Along with gamers from around the world Wade joins the adventure, and quickly finds himself pitted against powerful corporate foes who will do anything, in the oasis or the real world, to reach the treasure first. Think Willy Wonka, The Matrix, and Avatar all rolled into one.

Wait... Seriously? WILLY WONKA, THE MATRIX and AVATAR all rolled into one? That's a pretty ambitious comparison isn't it? Now I loved FANBOYS but could Cline really have tied different aspects of all three films into one? It's definitely an intriguing pitch, isn't it? Cline will be penning the script with Donald De Line producing. No word on who'll be directing this bad boy.

So what do you guys think? You intrigued by READY PLAYER ONE or are you going to go ahead and write this one off? Hit us with your thoughts below and keep it here for more on the project as we hear it!

Could be an interesting flick. Will have to see. I dig the Matrix the most. It was something new at the time and I walked out thinking "Wow that was awesome!" Willy Wonka is a classic and will always be a welcome watch in my home, but I never really saw it until I was older. And Avatar is a good movie, but considering it's James Cameron my expectations of him are really high. All the details were excellent, but the movie as a whole was just, Meh!. I want to see James Cameron in Aliens
