“Walking Dead” producer Gale Anne Hurd & AMC team for series based on Area 51 novel

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Way back in November we got word that “Walking Dead” super-producer Gale Anne Hurd had optioned the Area 51-themed novel AREA 51: AN UNCENSORED HISTORY OF AMERICA’S TOP SECRET MILITARY BASE. Man I hope they shorten that title for the show…

Anyway that was way back in November. Only now are we learning via the New York Post that Hurd will once again be teaming with AMC to bring the project to life! Based on Annie Jacobsen best-selling novel, AREA 51 reads:

The 1950s/’60’s-era series will focus on the workers in Area 51 who protect America’s deepest, darkest secrets — including the remains of the “alien” crash at Roswell — and how they become infected with Cold War paranoia.

Hurd will be producing through her banner Valhalla Entertainment along with AMC Studios. Jacobsen will serve as co-produer with Todd E. Kessler already tapped to pen this shite.

In the book Jacobsen claims the aliens found at the Roswell crash site weren’t from another planet but were the horrible results of American experiments on human beings. She believes the crash signaled not an alien invasion but the start of the Cold War. According to AMC head of original programming Joel Stillerman the series will stick pretty close to the source material so I suppose that is what we have to look forward to. Sounds good to me.

We’ll keep our eyes on this AREA 51 project and as soon as more details spill our way we’ll be right here to tell you about them.
