There's surprisingly little Annabelle in the new trailer for ANNABELLE: CREATION, but I suppose that figures. After all, what does she do, other than sit there with that sick smile on her mug? The preview instead turns most of its attention to Annabelle's latest – make that first – batch of victims, with the focus being a handicapped little girl. Not cool, Annabelle.

The film does look promising, I must say. At the very least, it looks more cinematic than the first ANNABELLE, which was a decidedly drab and uninteresting affair. Will ANNABELLE: CREATION be to its predecessor what OUIJA: ORIGIN OF EVIL was to OUIJA?

In “Annabelle: Creation,” several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker’s possessed creation, Annabelle.

The film stars Stephanie Sigman (“Spectre”), Talitha Bateman (“The 5th Wave”), Lulu Wilson (“Ouija: Origin of Evil,” “Deliver Us from Evil”), Philippa Coulthard (“After the Dark”), Grace Fulton (“Badland”), Lou Lou Safran (“The Choice”), Samara Lee (“Foxcatcher,” “The Last Witch Hunter”), Tayler Buck in her feature film debut, with Anthony LaPaglia (TV’s “Without a Trace”) and Miranda Otto (Showtime’s “Homeland,” “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy).

ANNABELLE: CREATION was directed by David F. Sandberg (LIGHTS OUT) and produced by THE CONJURING team of Peter Safran and James Wan. It opens August 11th.
