Do you need more convincing to see James Cameron's AVATAR?

Well, whether you do or don't, a new trailer for the movie will play in theaters this Friday, October 23rd. If you aren't heading to the theater, you'll have to wait until the 29th when it debuts online. It's likely that a bootleg will pop up on YouTube though.

For those of you who weren't impressed by the first teaser trailer, this one is supposed to be the ultimate. It will show much more of the story clocking in at a length 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

A lot of you pointed out that the 3D footage shown at AVATAR Day was amazing and that the teaser did the movie absolutely no justice. On the other hand, some of you could care less and think that it would shitty with or without 3D. When the new trailer comes, maybe it will change some minds.

I'm ready!
I didn't think there would be another trailer, but I guess they're really trying to sell this thing. I was already in anyway so this is just better.

How are they going to get how good the 3D looks by posting the trailor on the internet? They really should think about the marketing for this movie a bit more.

The script is great, the cast is solid, the film looks amazing in 3D, and this is a James 'Fucking' Cameron film we're talking about. I'm excited as hell.

I'll see this film. But Stephen Lang took the role Michael Biehn should have played- which sorta bums me out. But then again Cameron wanted Stephen Lang at one point for Cpl.Hicks in Aliens, so I guess things are karmically evening out.

I dont want to see cut scenes from Halo in 3D. This is what this film looks like. A cut scene in a game. I hate cut scenes. If it holds up as a film in 2D then I will be impressed. Oh and Titanic was absolute balls.

I can't see any movies in 3D because 3D "technology" doesn't work on my eyes at all. I don't know why, it just doesn't. And it gives me eye aches. I have perfect vision though, so I don't know what's going on. Either way, I have been excited about Avatar since I heard Cameron was developing it. I have the same problem, yet I was able to see the 16 minute 3D Avatar clip flawlessly. I couldn't even see the 3D trailers that played before the Avatar clip.

The 3D created by Cameron was made to mimic the human eye (the cameras move around like two eyes, as opposed to the two cameras being attached statically together.)

It sucks for me because I wear glasses and have to put the 3D glasses over my own. It's neat ever so often, but usually just gives me a headache.

Honestly, you know what gets me excited about this movie is the fact that it's not a god damn fricken remake. Getting sick of them. Come on Hollywood we need some more original ideas. I don't think a trailer will do this movie justice. It looks impressive, I honestly hope it lives up to the hype as I think too much hype can kill a movie. Fingers crossed eh.

I don't believe that 3D is the Next Big Thing in moviemaking. Sure, it can contribute to the success of some movies, but really, anything that goes beyond just sitting my butt in a theater and watching a projection screen is unnecessary (except maybe for this movie). I've been awaiting the day when cgi could really blend with real folks, but I have a suspicion it'll never REALLY work that way...

I never believed the hype surrounding this film. All I care for is another James Cameron-directed flick. This is it. I dont care about the technology being as cool as they claim or not, Im not seeing it in 3D anyways. It looks like a fine sci-fi flick to me and Ive been excited about it since the first trailer/teaser came out in August.

I think the technology is being blown out of proportion here. I have seen the trailer and honestly it doesn't look much different that the stuff we have seen before. So far this looks like an overrated piece of shit. Hopefully I'm wrong. When it comes down to technology, I think it matters in a science fiction movie, but good technology doesn't interpret as a good film. I hope it does end up...

unnecessary
this technology is unnecessary. at a time where the economy is bringing the financial intake of movies down, studios need to be more strategic with their budgets. you don't spend MORE money just to make a few dollars more. you save money, focus on story and character, get the audience interested in what matters, and make bank. fucking stupid studios.

I agree with raz... i was out of my mind excited for this flick until I saw the trailer and saw a ridiculous amount of blue skinned CGI that I've seen time and time and time again. I thought it would be more along the lines of Aliens/Starship [link] not Titanic. The aliens look ridiculously stupid and act like blue humans.

Nothing can change my mind about this, I'm pretty sure Avatar will be a commercial bomb after all of the hype and dollars put into it.

But shit, I'll still take another trailer.

i'll give it a look, but i'm nowhere near being a fanboy about this. i have some cautious optimism, if only for the fact that it's a James Cameron production. if not for him, i'd be completely indifferent to this movie.

All depends on the movie, if it's good, I'll find the tech interesting, but if it blows, then what would've been the point?

if the final consensus is that the film will only work in 3D and not just on a measly 35mm print or God forbid home video than Cameron failed.

The strength of the narrative can be weighed on any screen of any size, that is where the true immersion happens, not with glasses, but with storytelling.

I'm tired of hearing "you simply haven't seen the real thing unless it's in an imax with 3D while Cameron is on your lap stroking your hair." Guess what? It costs just as much to get a ticket for AVATAR on 35mm as it did to get a ticket for There Will Be Blood, or No Country for Old Men, or Up. And if the storytelling is good enough for me to be immersed in those on a regular 35mm print, than i'll be damned if

"the legend James Cameron" can't do the same.

I'm optimistic for AVATAR, but i'm tired of the revolutionary cinematic technology that gets the attention. It makes me question whether or not the actual film has any value.
