Cool trailer for British prison flick Starred Up with Jack O’Connell and Ben Mendelsohn

The first trailer for the British prison drama STARRED UP has dropped and it looks pretty solid. We caught the film at TIFF last year (review here) and it won us over, so it’s exciting that the film is finally getting out to the masses. Starring Jack O’Connell (300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE) as a troubled and violent teenager who is sent to an adult prison, he quickly finds his match – a fellow inmate who is also his father, played by Ben Mendelsohn (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES). The trailer is well-chopped and with a cool music beat, which I dig.

Check it out:

Not that we are necessarily lacking in prison drama’s, but it’s good to see one from time to time, if for no other reason than to remind yourself to, y’know, avoid them at all costs. In all seriousness, though, prison drama’s tend to be fascinating in that way, as those who have never been (and never hope to go) can marvel at the culture of prison life, while being equally repulsed. It’s a strange animal, to be sure. At any rate, STARRED UP looks like a good time in a bad place, so I look forward to checking it out when it hits my shores.

STARRED UP hits U.K. theaters on March 21, 2014. No U.S. date has been announced.
