No one told Ewan McGregor they were making Star Wars spin-offs!

Feb. 7, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Now, informing an actor who appeared in the Hated Trilogy that you are making more films set in the STAR WARS universe, does not mean they won't eventually offer him a role. But, Ewan McGregor's surprise that they were making spin-off films aside from STAR WARS EPISODE VII, VIII, and IX does still come across a bit funny.

Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host asked McGregor if anyone at Disney or Lucasfilm had reached out to him about a role in the potential Boba Fett or Han Solo movies. McGregor seemed completely unaware of the development, which is not surprising, but it did lead me to think that Obi-Wan Kenobi would likely be able to return for either of those films, especially if they take place between the Prequel and Classic trilogies. McGregor has aged enough that he could play Kenobi convincingly as a slightly older Jedi.

I hope they find a way to work McGregor into the films. I think he was the best part of the Prequels and is an all around good actor. What do you guys think?

Ewan McG is the saving grace in prequels.he definitely deserves spin-off films.after Luke skywalker and Hans solo,he is the best thing that had happened to Starwars franchise, imo.i still think that he should have accepted his James Bond offer

Obi-Wan

good thing Ewan knows now about the new movies. I didnt mind him playing Obi-Wan and would be cool if he appeared in any new STAR WARS movies in the near future.

Obi-Won between the trilogies could be interesting like a Yojimbo esque story when he tries to live a quiet life as Ben on Tatooine (or whatever planet that was)

When you mentioned Yojimbo, that put the whole spin-off in a new direction. Good call!

Are you guys trying to subliminally push McG on us for some reason?

Wouldn't mind seeing him in other Star Wars movies, he was especially epic in Episode III.
I on the other hand got the feeling he enjoyed and liked his role as Obi-wan in the past. Just about every thing I've seen him do on tv, most notably his round the world trips on motorbikes, he was always making references to star wars and saying quotes from the films, iirc he even visited the filming locations of Tatoonie.

He was easily the best and my most favorite part about the prequel trilogy. I would welcome him back with open arms for the new films.

McGregor's Obi-Wan is sort of like Ford's Han Solo

Neither actor has expressed particular love for the series over the years (both seem somewhat nonplussed by the attention they get, and I think both of them felt a bit of bitterness towards the fact that they've been typecast to a degree, although Ford outgrew that as he aged)...but their [link] are the best from the respective trilogies. I loved McGregor's Obi-Wan. It was arguably one of the few memorable things from the prequels. I hope they bring him back for a flashback or something, but I

Agreed...

Obi-Wan was the best character in the movies (other than Qui-Gon) and made the prequels. McGregor would be simply awesome now as an older Obi-Wan on some great adventures. He is the consummate Jedi.

I'd watch Obi-Wan.

here's a cool spin-off idea:

set sometime before Episode 1, some eastern-republic guys try to threaten the Jedi by kidnapping Qui-Gon Jinn's daughter. armed with only a lightsaber and a particular set of skills, he must go on an all-out ragefest to find the people who took his daughter and make them pay.

I wouldnt mind seeing a movie set between the trilogies showing how Obi Wan became Old Ben so to speak.

This would be quite boring... It would just be a whole lot of stalker shots of Obi-Wan looking at Luke from afar.

As much as I tollerated the prequel i always considered it the trials of Obi_Wan since he was the only person of interest imo
