Cool Videos: See the opening credit sequence for Sam Raimi's Oz The Great and Powerful

Mar. 21, 2013by:

I have yet to see OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, due to the lack of through-the-roof reviews mostly, but do look forward to checking it out someday.  Regardless of my perception, however, the film is still a big hit and with a sequel in the works it seems that the world of Oz is here to stay (again).  Today, Disney released the opening credits sequence online, which is pretty cool if you haven't already seen the film.  It's got the creative energy I'd expect from Raimi, but with Danny Elfman's score playing underneath and the overall mechanics of it, the whole thing is eerily Tim Burton-esque.  And, that's not a bad thing.

I don't think every movie needs a long, drawn-own opening, but I certainly appreciate when filmmakers take the time to give the first few seconds of the film a little more love than a boring title over a random shot (see: A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD).

Enjoy the show!:

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL, starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and Zach Braff is currently raking in Emerald City-level gold at your local theater.

I saw this film on Tuesday, and I didn't really like it. I thought it had a weak script, but I did think the opening credits were neat! I think my favorite opening is Casino Royale, that song and the beautiful artwork just pumps me up.

As per the tidbit...

The only one that comes to mind is 25th Hour. Very somber. Given it's very drawn out, but adds a heavy tone from the beginning considering the film does have strong "Post 9-11" themes.

Oh. And Carlito's Way is pretty good too. It was pure genius for DePalma to show the ending at the beginning.

Superman Returns

I absolutely loved the entrance on Superman Returns, took the great Superman The Movie entrance and made it modern and better. Star Wars is also really iconic, Lord of War with the bullet is also cool, and pretty much all the Bond Films.

So what your saying is you let reviews dictate what movies you see? Even though it has a cinemascore of B+? I guess.

If I'm paying money to go see something, it helps me a lot to think it might actually be worth my time. And a rating is different than a review.
