Cool Videos: X2 trailer gets the Logan treatment

10.27.2016

The LOGAN trailer was so good it could put people into a euphoria-induced coma. Seriously. I know someone who watched it, their brain filled with what doctors call “happiness goo”, and he promptly went into an indefinite slumber. They are currently monitoring him. Anyway, the application of the song Hurt by Johnny Cash over the movie's dramatic footage had a poignant effect, solidifying the movie will be unlike any other comic book film to date. So, of course it makes sense to see if the style could have the same impact when applied to other movie trailers. So of course it's best to start with another X-MEN movie, and quite frankly one of the best: X2: X-MEN UNITED. Given a black and white filter to add a bit more ambiance, the music works just as well here over a montage of the movie's more subtle moments, before transitioning to the big action scenes. The video by Sam Ibrahim proves several things: 1.) The song works over ANYTHING; 2.) I will miss Hugh Jackman as Wolverine more than you could possibly know; 3.) It's really hard coming up with three things. Enjoy!

I think that "Hurt" is basically Logan's theme song. It gets at the heart of what a near-immortal, hundred-year-old warrior with a healing factor that keeps him from dying might feel. But it doesn't quite fit X2's slick, younger team. And all I could think was that album came out around the same time as X2, and sans the black-and-white, it would've been just like a marketing company to shoehorn that song into part of their advertising for the movie, whereas it works exceptionally well in the

That song is just crucifyingly good to put a trailer too - seriously haunting and totally agree it's a wolverine track. I hope we get it in the movie at some point

It's pretty on the nose in what scenes it matches to the lyrics ("I hurt myself today" -> burns himself with a cigar, "I am still right here" -> closeup on the name on his dogtags, "I would make you hurt" -> screaming as he escapes the Weapon X project, which you know... probably hurt), also the line that Magneto says doesn't balance well with the music's levels, but overall still a pretty dang solid fan trailer.
