Creed set to become the new Rocky with multiple sequels planned

11.03.2015

Everyone seems to be extremely high on CREED. Audiences are looking forward to its release in a few short weeks a great deal. Warner Bros. is reportedly very pleased with the final result Ryan Coogler has turned out, and those who have had an opportunity to see it rather early have been said to be walking away excited by what they saw. What does that mean for the film and its standing at Warner Bros.?

Why, sequels, of course.

Now, before I put the cart before the horse, let's all remember that this is show business, so when push comes to shove, it's all about the Benjamins. If a film rakes in lots of the almighty dollar at the box office, then there is a greater chance of follow-ups taking shape. Underperform and everyone is onto something else.

But, if CREED lives up to the expectations a lot of people are envisioning for it, then plans for a CREED II will be a go... and there supposedly is a sequel in the planning stages in the event that moment arrives. But that's not all... There may be a third film in the blueprint as well. That's what producer Irwin Winkler reluctantly gave up to Roger Friedman in recent days.

Warner Bros. would love to have another boxing series on their hands, given the popularity the ROCKY franchise had at one time... and this couldn't shape up to be a more perfect passing of the torch from Sylvester Stallone's original to Michael B. Jordan's future. We'll have to see what direction CREED takes in order to get a better idea of where any potential sequels could lead... but, as long as he's not fighting a next-gen Russian for revenge on Christmas Day in the future (I love ROCKY IV, but we've been down that road already) or some Mr. T rip-off, I think we'll be okay.

CREED punches its way into theaters on November 25.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. While people love Rocky, and a classic underdog story, Creed still has to prove itself.

The thing is: without Rocky in these movies, they lose that special thing that we live about the series. And if they have numerous sequels planned, and the trailers show Ricky being sick.. Rocky is pry going to die and lose that connection that is needed in these movies.

If that made sense!

I don't know, I think they gave it away by showing Rocky in Adonis's corner in what appears to the final fight. I only say this cause he is wearing his fathers trunks which I'm sure Rocky gives him after some speech before the fight lol. If Rocky does live they will probably keep him as Adonis's corner (if Stallone is up for it).

Don't get me wrong I like the idea of "Creed" very much; Apollo's son being trained by his closest friend Rocky almost in this sort of [link] relationship. I can even get behind a sequel. But a whole franchise ala Rocky? Mmmm... I don't think so. People tend to forget that what makes Rocky and the subsequent Rocky franchise so engrained into out collective movie minds is Rocky himself. The character. He's this humble, bumbling fool almost. Spouting little random gems of knowledge like Gary

Spouting little random gems of knowledge like Gary Busey. He's full of charisma. You want and love to root for him. He's the perfect, quintessential underdog. Those are all things this new franchise will lack. Adonis is no Rocky. And am I to believe as an audience member that Adonis is this underdog in the vein that Rocky was? I don't think so. C'mon Hollywood!

I get your point but I don't think Adonis really needs to be like Rocky for it to be a franchise. Adonis just has to be a very intriguing character with enough layers to explore in sequels. I'm not sure we will get that though, Jordan seems great in the role but we will have to wait and see how interesting the character is.

A lot of the same stories get recycled in Hollywood. Redemption, the underdog story, America loves these themes. It's all about the execution that makes it stand out. Hopefully this can be one of the better boxing movies, and with the talent involved I'd like to think so!

I liked the first film but I would never have released a sequel for it. To me, the franchise exemplify why Stallone never became more than a genre actor: he made this film that got a lot of awards attention, then ruined by making a bunch of unnecessary sequel. I don't know why anyone would make a sequel to a sport movie.

I think Rocky II is a lot better and wouldn't have mind if that was the last one.

Mmmmm. OK.

People are still seeing this film as another, possibly final and unnecessary, installment of the Rocky franchise, Michael B Jordan is going to have to steal all the limelight from what Stallone has spent near 40 years at. I think a franchise is unlikely. It might be a good film and tug at heartstrings concerning the Italian Stallone but I think that will be it.
On a side note I met Carl Weathers at the weekend in Belfast. Hell of a nice guy. ,

Yes!

I absolutely love this kid as an actor! Being such a huge rocky fan I am most definitely looking forward to this. The only Rocky film I didn't like was 5 (did any of us?) and I am more than game for Creed sequels! DING.....DING!

I loved Rocky V. It was the one that broke the formula and felt the most real since Rocky I and II.
