Dane Dehaan is a young roadie on a mission in this trailer for Metallica Through the Never

May. 22, 2013by: Niki Stephens

The last music related film that I saw and thoroughly enjoyed was FOO FIGHTERS: BACK AND FORTH. Before that it was IT MIGHT GET LOUD. I actually went to the theater to see that one. Rock docs and films are some of my favorites. I haven't seen everything but I'm working my way through them.

I can tell you I'm definitely interested in METALLICA THROUGH THE NEVER even before I saw this first trailer. The music flick is a blend of live concert footage and a story starring Dane Dehaan (THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, CHRONICLE). Here are some details from the official press release: " Featuring dazzling pyrotechnics, the most elaborate live-performance stage ever built and imagery drawn from the bands trailblazing iconography, the immersive 360-degree show creates a mind-bending, ear-shattering mirror image of the destruction and chaos of Trips journey. Metallica Through the Nevers state-of-the-art 3-D photography, captured using up to 24 cameras simultaneously, engulfs audiences in one of the most innovative andexciting cinematic experiences ever imagined."

When I was little my parents would blast Metallica as I sat in the backseat of a small Honda Accord. I loathed the band (along with Megadeath) for the longest time because of this. Finally I found piece about 10 years ago, and can rock along with the best of them now.

Check out the trailer below and teaser poster below.

Synopsis: Trip, a young roadie sent on an urgent mission during Metallicas roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. As the band performs its most iconic songs for thousands of their fans in a never-before-seen performance created exclusively for the film, Trip is dispatched outside the arena to meet a disabled delivery truck and recover a mysterious item being transported to the show. But the seemingly simple assignment turns into a surreal adventure when his car is hit by an out-of-control driver. Trip, dazed and bruised, climbs out of his van only to find himself pitched in the middle of a tense standoff between angry protesters and charging riot police. In the ensuing mayhem, a vicious masked horseman sets his murderous eye on Trip while delivering indiscriminate deathblows to rioters and cops alike. Fleeing through the desolate, post-apocalyptic urban streetscape, Trip has only his wits toprotect him as he attempts to deliver the bands precious cargo and avoid becoming the horsemans next victim.

Not a big Metallica fan but this looks pretty good for their fans. If you haven't see Pearl Jam Twenty and Sound City, they're really goods music docs.

I think its an awesome idea to make a narrative that takes place during a concert and play it with concert footage. They did it with Broken Social Scene but the narrative part wasn't good.

I recently re-watched Metallica doc "Some Kind Of Monster" and was surprised to find that I really just don't give a steaming liquid shit about anything Metallica related any more. They really are just a bunch of spoiled petulant dysfunctional millionaires labouring under the illusion that they're still relevant.

If you want a really good music doco, go watch Reel To Real, Dave Grohl's directorial debut and the story of Sound City studio in LA. Brilliant flick.

To be fair, they did create some of the most influential tunes in the history of rock & metal music, so I guess them just being spoiled isn't that bad. Plus it's not like they're Justin Bieber; spewing shitty garbage and acting like an asswipe for it. At least Metallica makes f*ckin awesome music.

Yes, they did create some of the most influential music in the history of metal music. Right up until they released Load. Metallica is broken; everything they've done since Load has been terrible. St Anger is unfocused, too long and unlistenable. Death Magnetic was a step in the right direction but still irrelevant compared to most of today's metal. You can't compare them to Justin Bieber, apart from the whole "spewing shitty garbage and acting like an asswipe". Since when has Lars NOT acted

They had me at Dane DeHaan

After seeing him in CHRONICLE and TRUE BLOOD, he's become on of my favourite young actors. The movie looks like fun, too.

P.S. - Spelling Nazi Alert: It's 'Dane DeHaan', 'Megadeth', and 'peace.'
