Daniel Day-Lewis breathes life into our 16th president in the trailer for Steven Spielberg's Lincoln

09.13.2012

Looks like Daniel Day-Lewis has done it again in this trailer for Steven Spielberg's LINCOLN.

The film will definitely have some Oscar buzz surrounding it. I was overtaken by the colors and cinematography displayed in the first trailer. It really takes someone like Spielberg to tackle such a major figure in history. Right after the trailer, Spielberg and Joseph Gordon-Levitt did a live chat about the film. You can check it out by heading here.

Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones, “Lincoln” is produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, with a screenplay by Tony Kushner, based in part on the book “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln” by Doris Kearns Goodwin. The DreamWorks Pictures/Twentieth Century Fox film, in association with Participant Media, releases in U.S. theaters exclusive on November 9, 2012, with expansion on November 16, 2012.

I get paid over $87 per hour working from home with 2 kids at home. I never thought I'd be able to do it but my best friend earns over 10k a month doing this and she convinced me to try. The potential with this is endless. Heres what I've been doing,>>> Green32.com

He's looking at a photo of two boys. Had photography been around long enough for a photo to look that sepia and faded?

BEAUTIFUL.

It's very cool finally to hear DDL's interpretation on Lincoln's voice, which I hear was much higher than people typically think. How many of us couldn't get Daniel Plainview's voice out of our head? DDL is such a stunning actor with no limits in his talent. This looks beautiful, and i hope it doesn't disappoint. OSCAR, OSCAR, OSCAR!

Looks fantastic!

And I'd say the only real competition he has at the Oscars is Joaquin Phoenix for The Master and a possible sneak-attack from John Hawkes in The Sessions.

Not Usually a fan of Spielberg

Like I said in my STRIKEBACK title, I'm not usually a fan of Steven Spielberg (Except of course for , JAWS and JURASSIC PARK 1 & 2) as I tend to lean more towards the likes of Oliver Stone & Paul Thomas Anderson Films. That being said, I think LINCOLN looks pretty damn good. You can't EVER go wrong with Daniel Day Lewis, who is one of the most talented actors working in Hollywood A-List Films today.
I'll bet fifty bucks that, not only will the film be well recieved by critics & audiences

I'll bet fifty bucks that, not only will the film be well recieved by critics & audiences alike, but that it will probably sweep the Oscar's next year with wins for Best Picture, Director, Actor, Cinematography, Original Score and so on & so on. However, at this point I can continue live in my own personal fantasy world where Oliver Stone's SAVAGES sweeps the Oscar's instead with a couple possible wins for P.T. Anderson's THE MASTER as well!

This looks Great!! I'm down with Lincoln's voice. Historical records say he had a high shrill voice and was an awkward looking man, looks like Daniel has nailed the part.

I worry about the accuracy. I only counted 4 shots of Lincoln with the hat and there were no vampires.

And I heard a touch of Jurassic Park in the score after Lincoln takes his hat off while on the horse.

Interesting fact...

My great-cousin (dad's cousin) is the dude with the crazy beard at 1:16. He plays Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles. I was staying at his place last summer while he was growing that gnarly beard. Ha

Looks great. You can definitely tell its Spielberg, and strongly resembles War Horse and Amistad, 2 movies of his I really liked. As someone below said, Lincoln's voice is different than I imagined in my head, but I'm sure DDL's performance will be great and the front-runner for the Oscar.

I think the film looks great. Seems to have gotten the right tone of the period setting. Honestly though, and I have no means to compare because I've never heard a soundbite and doubt there are any from back then, I don't like the voice of Day Lewis for Lincoln. I know its silly to nitpick at it but I just pictured it deeper. Sounded weird.

Well Lincoln was known to have a high voice. Maybe Say-Lewis was aiming at something that was higher than his normal voice without sounding fake or over the top.
