Excl. Interviews: Inherent Vice Stars Josh Brolin and Katherine Waterston!

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

If you want the ultimate modern day tough guy, you can’t do much better than Josh Brolin. From TRUE GRIT to NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, the actor continues to impress by working with some very inspired directors. This is certainly true with his latest, where he takes on the character of “Bigfoot” Bjornsen in INHERENT VICE, the latest from Paul Thomas Anderson. In his scene-stealing performance, he gives his co-star Joaquin Phoenix a run for his money as a tough detective who has an obsession with frozen bananas.

When we sat down together to talk about playing this character, we discussed many of Bigfoot’s quirks. This is a wonderfully weird performance, and Brolin embraces all of it. It was such a pleasure chatting with the guy and making a couple appropriately obscene hand gestures, that I was truly disappointed our time was so short. Either way – love it or hate it – INHERENT VICE is a very provocative viewing experience and I for one was transfixed.

Katherine Waterston has appeared in a number of fascinating films over her career. This includes the ambitious THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY: HER and HIM, ROBOT & FRANK as well as a five episode arc on Boardwalk Empire (I need to check this series out). She is an incredible beauty as well as a talented actress. In Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest, INHERENT VICE, she plays the mysterious femme fatale “Shasta Fay Hepworth.” While her screen time is limited, when she appears she fully commands the audience attention.

I wasn’t sure what to expect when meeting this lovely and alluring actress. What I found is that she is sweet-natured and charming and makes you feel very comfortable immediately. During our chat we talked about one especially intense sex scene where she takes absolute control over her co-star Joaquin Phoenix. It is a powerful moment, and one that not every actress would be able to carry out. Make sure you check out INHERENT VICE this Thursday, believe me you won’t be able to take your eyes off of Ms. Waterston. This groovy flick opens in wide release January 9, 2015.
