Coincidence or not, the new STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS trailer has quite a few shots that are very similar to scenes from the original trilogy, and we decided to do a side-by-side comparison of them for our latest Exclusive Cool Video. Even some of you hardcore Star Wars fans might be surprised by how alike these shots are, and I know I'm supposed to say this, but this really is a gorgeous and well-edited video.

Just don't hold your breath for a THE FORCE AWAKENS and prequel trilogy comparison trailer...

STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS is due in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Some of this I agree with. Some of the shots reminded me more of the prequels (not the bad parts though), or of different scenes than the ones shown above.

What really blew my mind though, and I haven't watched the OT in a very long time, but just how much better the old puppet dogfights look compared to the CGI fights. I know this should seem obvious to a lot of people. And it brought my attention to J.J.'s continuing battle with lens-flare addiction. Guy's getting better, but it's still

Are you sure? Couple images, possibly...but not the 'entire' trailer.

Not trying to stir up any Bantha Podoo among us fanboys, but Ireally only gleaned 2-3 serious homages to some of the iconic orginal trilogy imagery.

(Luke & Rey looking off into the horizon, The Millennium Falcon arching toward the screen, Leia & Rey firing a blaster)

Substituting almost any other semi-identical character or action just to fill the slot needed for the new 'Awakens' trailer just kind seems like reaching to me.

Obi-Han?

Re-watched A New Hope last night with my wife who (gasp!) has never seen a full OT Star Wars film, and I noticed some (speculative at this point) parallels between Obi-Wan in that movie and Han Solo in The Force Awakens. Instead of being a skeptic, Han's preaching the force/Jedi to the new generation of heroes. I just really hope he doesn't end up the same way as Obi-Wan.
