First bizarre, twisted trailer for John Dies at the End

09.26.2011

After showing some preview footage as Fantastic Fest, indie horror film JOHN DIES AT THE END started being buzzed about rather quickly.

Today we have our first full look at the quirky horror film that centers around a drug that creates out of body experiences of sort. It looks thoroughly trippy, and a welcome addition to a tired and cliched genre. Here's the official plot:

It's a drug that promises an out-of-body experience with each hit. On the street they call it Soy Sauce, and users drift across time and dimensions. But some who come back are no longer human. Suddenly a silent otherworldly invasion is underway, and mankind needs a hero. What it gets instead is John and David, a pair of college dropouts who can barely hold down jobs. Can these two stop the oncoming horror in time to save humanity? No. No, they can't.

Extra Tidbit: What if at the end it turns out they just got really, really high?

Looks awesome.

It's good to see Doug Jones acting without prosthetic make-up. He's highly underrated.

The movie looks awesome. Original horror is had to come by these days, and after Bubba Ho-Tep Coscarelli has my vote.
But, man, does that digital photography look shit. I know he probably couldn't budget for film, but still.

While I'm probably the only person on this planet who isn't a fan of Don Coscarelli (as in - at all), admittedly this movie looks really awesome, and not just because the book it's based on is one of the most disturbing and funky things ever put out there.

Star Wars prequels, Footloose, Nightmare on Elm St., Fright Night, Conan, Straw Dogs, Smurfs, The Thing, Arthur, The Mechanic, The Roommate, Super 8 (which was just a lame-ass copy of a bad Spielberg 80's movie), Transformers, Winnie the Pooh, The Three Musketeers (which is a cheat since Disney remakes this every 10 years), The Muppets (even though I'm looking forward to this version), and The Sitter. Those movies are all from the 80's (I know, because that's when I saw them in either the

extra tidbit OWNS!

Dear Paul,

I rarely post on here and feel like a shithead because I wish I had time to do so a lot more. But after reading the plot description and watching the trailer, that was the FUNNIEST fucking extra tidbit I've ever read on here. I had to say that. Kudos!

Sometimes some things need to seem so completely insane to be breaths of fresh air, and this seems like one of them. I am sold.

Well it looks like they have stayed true to the book, which I loved. I was kind of worried the book was just too far out there for it be filmable. The looks awesome can't wait.

I still have my fingers crossed for Phantasm V, but this looks pretty damn cool to me!

Good to see Angus Scrimm again.
