Go behind the scenes of the epic Hardhome sequence from Game of Thrones

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

If you are not caught up through the eighth episode of this season of Game of Thrones, I would not venture much further in this story. The concluding section of the show featured a massive deviation from the source novels and showcased what many are considering the most epic battle sequence in small screen history. The events of the Massacre of Hardhome were no small undertaking and a new featurette explores all of the work that went into pulling off the effects and stunts for the show.

Clearly, HBO is responding to the social media response to the episode and are milking it for everything they can. This featurette clearly looks like it was intended for the forthcoming Blu-ray release of the season but it was very smart to share it now. I cannot compare the hour to anything else I have seen on the small screen and that is saying something. Way to raise the bar, HBO. Well done.

On top of the featurette, there is also a fun little cool video that syncs the scene to Michael Jackson‘s “Thriller”. Again, spoilers abound, so don’t watch if you haven’t seen the show.

The final two episodes of Game of Thrones’ fifth seaon air June 7th and 14th on HBO.
