Guillermo Del Toro has Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark on hia agenda

01.14.2016

Guillermo Del Toro isn't the type of filmmaker to sit around and wait for projects to come to him. If what he wants to do isn't coming together quickly enough, he'll go out and develop something else... and that's primarily what he's doing right now as he tries to make heads or tails out of what might happen with PACIFIC RIM 2 and waits to sign his name to contract to direct FANTASTIC VOYAGE.

In the meantime, he's going to throw his efforts into SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK, based on Alvin Schwartz's trilogy of horror short story collections, for CBS Films. John August has penned the script which Del Toro will use as a starting point, but, given that he's such a fan of Schwartz's source materal (he owns ten of Stephen Gammell's original illustrations for the books), he might head right on back to the pages in order to get the frights to his liking when all is said and done.

There is no timeline as to how quickly Del Toro might hope to get SCARY STORIES up and running, but with a rather sizable void in his working schedule right now, I would think things would start ramping up immediately to head into production by later this year.

I can't be the only one who's tired of hearing what this guy 'might' do.

Seriously? This is AWESOME news if it pans out! I remember hearing that they were gonna ,make a movie or series about this. It seems like about a year ago, and I haven't heard anything since. These books creeped me out as a kid, and still do to this day! I remember the one about the two kids that make a scarecrow, and then it follows and terrorizes them. Hope this happens!

If you grew up reading these, you will be sad to know the most recent publications have been neutered art wise and now contain pussy new versions of the stuff that used to give you nightmares in the 2nd grade.

It's gotta be animated, right? Those illustrations are 90% of the reason those stories were so freaking scary, I can't imagine a film adaptation without them.

doesn't necessarily need to be animated, as long as they stay true to the stories from the books. They could possibly do something like Creepshow where part of it was animated before and after each story.
