It all ends in the new trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2

04.27.2011

The countless fans of kid wizard Harry Potter and the magical world he inhabits must be finding this to be bittersweet, as they won't get any more movies in the series after HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2. (Unless J.K. Rowling changes her mind and decides to write a class reunion story or something.)

If you clicked the headline, you're almost certainly familiar enough with the series to know this stuff already, but here's the synopsis anyway: "In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here."

I got goosebumps from watching this trailer, I haven't had this kind of reaction to a movie in what seems like forever. Its going to be epic.

The action looks insane, but Yate's just doesn't get this world. He ruined the movie series for me by absolutely raping 5 and 6. Cuaron should have directed from 3 on.

Extra Tidbit: The Wheel of Time, if done right, would destroy any and all fantasy films. But you'd have to have like 10 movies. It would do better as an HBO series, I think.

Comments with opinions that differ from your own? Why?

There's no question that the Harry Potter world has a specific tone. Many HP fans agree that Cuaron was the director that came closest to replicating that tone on screen. He understood the humor, the charicatures, the mystery, etc.

Somehow Yates managed to remove almost all of that from the last 3 films. Just look at Ron. His character has completely changed since Yates took the reins. He's now just a regular, boring guy.

Next time you watch 5 or 6, notice how often the actors are standing in a line with their hands at their sides, acting out the scene. It's so strange.

I get that they wanted to go with someone British out of pride for their country, but they sacrificed the quality of the final films in the process. 6 could have won a best picture oscar if done right. Yates is as incompetent as they come.

After seeing this trailer, it finally dawned that this will be the movie of the summer. Cap and Thor and TF3 wont hold a candle to it. Im one of the few that hasnt read the books and have not had the ending spoiled, so Im joyfully going into this with no total idea how it will end. With it so close now, Im so scared to read articles and have it spoiled lol.

Wow, fantastic trailer. This will be the top grossing movie of the year, and since its in 3D (even though I'll see it in 2D) I'd be willing to bet it gives Avatar a run for its money. There will never be another series like Harry Potter, and as sad as it is to see it end I'm glad the story gets a conclusion. I get irritated by series like Spiderman or Pirates that fizzel out because they just get more sequels or rebooted without bringing any closure to the characters or the fans who care about

That's why my favorite film series have been ones that have a definite conclusion: Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc. If I ever miss them, I don't need another sequel because I can just re-watch the dvds/blu-rays.

A series of unfortunate events could have been a great film series, but unfortunately they fucked up and rolled three into one film that will likely never get a sequel. Arghhh! Good trailer btw.

And so ends one of the biggest and most significant portions of my childhood.

The nights I spent literally reading the books with a flashlight under the covers so as to not bother my family in the middle of the night will always be with me.

I grew with Potter. As he grew and matured, I grew and matured. Were the movies perfect? Of course not. But I always felt a strong connection to the series. I'm roughly the same age as the principle cast and so I always placed myself in their shoes.

It's been surreal to watch the cast grow as I have grown and seen them as adults now. I suppose that means that I'm an adult now, too.

What Rowling created was a deep, rich, and imaginative world that provided a wonderful escape for me. As long as the books were releasing, I knew that I was still a child because I could still drift away into her magical world. As the books came to an end, I convinced myself to not be too sad, I still had the movies. Now that those are coming to an end, I'm not really sure how to feel.

I love Harry Potter. Plain and simple. I love the world, the magic, the stories, and most importantly; the characters.

Watching such an important part of my childhood come to end is depressing, but I know I'll always have the books and movies to revisit the world whenever I want. I'm glad that all the actors, producers, directors, etc. involved with these films were so passionate about bringing this world to life. I know people don't like some members of the cast or some creative decisions (cutting scenes) made but it always felt right to me. Tom Felton, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, and Daniel Radcliffe had a herculean task of bringing these beloved characters to life. As the movies progressed, I saw their acting talents grow and mature and what we have now are four very talented, experienced and passionate actors that will hopefully continue to grace the big screen in other projects.

I'm grateful to this series. The creativity I saw in it is unmatched as far as I'm concerned. Every generation has their franchise that they feel is the pinnacle of creativity. For some, it's Lord of The Rings. For others, Star Wars. For me, it's Harry Potter.

I'm incredibly grateful to J.K. Rowling for the escape she provided me for all those years.

I'm grateful to the talented actors and actresses (my namesake included) that flocked to this wonderful series to bring it to life.

I'm also grateful to the fans, that made this entire journey unforgettable. The folks that, like me, would read the books 30 or 40 times. That would go to school to discuss possible theories of what would happen next. Is Snape a good guy? Is Dumbledore really dead, or is it a devious plan? What the hell is the prophecy? All questions that ate away at my brain only to have Rowling completely blow me away with the answers.

Cheers to Harry Potter, the one and only. There won't be another one like it. It's bittersweet saying goodbye, but I'll always have the memories.

Looks pretty good, hopefully they ditch the jokey tone they've awkwardly shoehorned into Part I and actually make it dark and serious like the book.

Also, if you took a shot every time they reused the soundbite of Voldemort yelling 'YEAAAAAAAARGGH', you'd be dead halfway through the trailer. I think I counted six times.

You really have to give alot of credit to all of the people who are involved in these films. They did a hell of a job in quality over the span of 8 films.

That trailer was pretty epic and badass, this will be a fun film.

And no, I can't really picture any other series of books doing so well so consecutively. The HP films have been lucky, they've all had good hands laid on them and turned out great. I never read the books, but the films have been very enjoyable.
