Jamie Foxx joins Taron Egerton in Robin Hood: Origins as Little John

01.11.2016

One of the many Robin Hood projects in the pipeline just made an addition to its cast of merry men as Deadline reports that Jamie Foxx (DJANGO UNCHAINED) has joined the cast of ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS as Little John. The outlet claims that Foxx's take on the character will be a "battle-hardened but war-weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero in the gritty revisionist take on the legend."

If you couldn't tell by the title, ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS will explore the origins of the famed outlaw (haven't we already seen that before? Several times?) as he returns home from the Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest has been overrun by corruption and evil. Taron Egerton (KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE) will star as Robin Hood himself alongside Eve Hewson as Maid Marian, and production will kick off once Egerton wraps on the KINGMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE sequel. Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) is set to direct the film for Lionsgate from a script by Joby Harold (KNIGHTS OF THE ROUNDTABLE: KING ARTHUR) and if you weren't already getting the "dark and gritty" vibe, the film is apparently being compared to THE DARK KNIGHT. Fart.

Which cinematic incarnation of Robin Hood is your favourite?

Doing Robin Hood a bit like the The Dark Knight? So 'Green Arrow' then?
Not been enthused by a Robin Hood-based film for years - would be nice if they could do something worthwhile with this.

Robin Hood ORIGINS😡

Why can't you make a straight adaptation of the book where the story is focused on the friendship between Robin Hood and Little John..and maid Marian is hardly present in ti

Errol Flynn is the definitive Robin Hood, IMO

It's a shame the producers want a "dark and gritty" vibe for this film. Taron Egerton and Jamie Foxx would pull off a lighter, more fun vibe beautifully.

The Flynn movie hit pretty much every Robin Hood legend out there. I'm also a fan of the '80s BBC series with Michael Praed. My favorite movie of the character is probably Robin and Marian with Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn.

I agree completely. In nearly 80 years, no one has topped that film.

Haven't got a issue with the character of Little John being a moor just with the height of Foxx who is 5.9 I thought the Character should be at least 6 foot.

Grim and gritty, just like everything else. Great couple of actors, but this idea is a snoozer.

I really wish Foxx would pick better, more serious projects (ie Collateral, Django Unchained, Any Given Sunday) then washing his time on fluff films.

While I'm actually fine with making Little John a Moor, I'm a little on the fence about another gritty take on the legend. Especially since Taron Egerton is easily the most swashbuckling actor I've seen come along in years.
