Kick-Ass scribe Jane Goldman to pen Tim Burton’s Pinocchio

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

When I say Tim Burton’s PINOCCHIO, I mean, nearly, almost Tim Burton’s PINOCCHIO with Robert Downey Jr. close to staring as Geppetto.

The two have been circling the project for a bit now, but are most likely to commit now that they have hired a writer for the screenplay. Jane Goldman (KICK-ASS, STARDUST) will be the lady for the scripting job.

The story, which is much like the Disney classic adapted from Carlo Collodi’s tale will center on, “Geppetto, the woodcarver who creates a puppet who dreams of becoming a real boy and whose nose grows when he tells a lie. When Pinocchio goes missing, Geppetto embarks on a quest to reunite with his marionette.”

Bringing Goldman on board was part tactic to get Burton and Downey Jr. to cease the talks and sign some contracts. The initial draft was written by Bryan Fueller (PUSHING DAISES). Goldman who frequently collaborates with director Matthew Vaughn will be a nice fit for Burton, in my opinion. I’ll also watch Robert Downey Jr. in anything. The live-action film has yet to attach anyone to the role of boy puppet, Pinocchio.

Anyone surprised that Johnny Depp isn’t playing Geppetto? Not an insult, but picking Downey Jr. sort of veers off the usual path. I like this way of thinking.
