Power Rangers film releases image of new Zord design

10.28.2016

Honestly, I can't wait for the new POWER RANGERS movie. Which is strange for me, since I didn't even like the show as a kid. But, as I've said on this site before, I believe the idea has the potential to be a great mixture of teen movie, superhero movie, kung-fu movie, kaiju movie, and giant robot movie. It could also be a huge mess, but we'll have to just wait and see when it comes out.

But one thing we don't have to wait on anymore is a look at our first Zord! Now, to be fair, it's just in toy form for now (and quite frankly not a very good-looking one at that), but it does give us an idea of what we're in store for:

Not going to lie, I really like that design. It's more sleek and badass than the original, while also retaining enough from it to be recognizable. Luckily, it's not a complete overhaul, but rather just a modernized redesign (not that much different to what they did with the costumes). So far, so good.

There are some other toys as well, though they are of things we've seen in other promotional material or in the recent trailer:

So there you have it. Can't wait to see what the other Zords look like, especially in action! Hopefully a new, more action-packed trailer will be released soon (where we can also see the redesigned Goldar)! I'm most definitely hype.

POWER RANGERS will morph into theaters March 24th, 2017

But what do you guys think about the new Zord design? Yay or nay?

Kinda look like Transformers' Grimlock from Age of Extinction.

Well at least the zord is an original design. That toy doesn't look combine-able though.

That looks more like the QUANTASAURUS REX ZORD than the TYRANNOSAURUS DINOZORD.

Teen angst bullshit

The direction of this film is very upsetting. Everything looks amazing except for the teens being overly angsty. I also don't like how they all have super powers outside of their costumes. It just seems stupid.

Really getting excited for this with every new piece of footage that gets released. Here's hoping that Tommy makes an appearance in the sequel as the Green Ranger.

Meh

I'm on the fence with this. On one hand, it's kind of cool that something I liked as a kid is getting a new treatment, but I'm also tired of reboots that do this sort of thing poorly. I'm not really a fan of what I have seen so far--and unless this is a bad toy rendering (which sometimes happens), I'm not thrilled about the T-Rex Zord. It looks like a Tremors monster with legs. That being said, I hope it looks better on screen and the movie is super fun.
