Split/Unbreakable sequel, Glass, coming with Willis, McAvoy & Jackson

04.26.2017

Today, M. Night Shyamalan has revealed (via his Twitter feed) that Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and James McAvoy will join  him for a "crazy comic book thriller" with GLASS, a sequel to both UNBREAKABLE and SPLIT. Additionally, the film will be produced by Jason Blum and is expected for a January 18, 2019 release.

Along with the news, Shyamalan stated, "It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film."

You can see those tweets here:

Alright, I suppose that I should finally break down and see SPLIT, huh? I've heard really good things about it from plenty of people, though I must admit that Shymalan's on-again-off-again track record has kept me at a distance up until today. Forget what I think about all of this, though. Did you see SPLIT? Are you a fan of UNBREAKABLE? How does the idea of these two movies coming together make you feel? Let us know in the comment section below!

Once again, GLASS is scheduled for a January 18, 2019 release.

Extra Tidbit: Unbreakable is still my favorite of M Night Shyamalan's films.

Sweet

I always wanted to see that universe in Unbreakable explored more. Great film. And Split, I enjoyed a lot. Ya, it's a tad overrated, but it's still a solid film and McAvoy is excellent in it. So I will definitely buy a ticket.

If in doubt, and people are laughing at you as a director, revisit/remake/reboot one of your old properties. Pathetic.

It is not, in any way, a remake or a reboot.

MacAvoy is great, but otherwise Split is hecka overrated

I was willing to give Shyamalan another chance after The Visit got relatively positive reviews, then I watched it and realized that the film wasn't actually good, it was just less crappy than his last few projects. Split was a further step in the right direction,, but still not exactly good. It's a dumb movie featuring people making ridiculously dumb choices and a super cartoony villain. MacAvoy is able to make the villain pretty entertaining and show off a lot of range, but outside of that the

Unbreakable is great though, so here's hoping that Shyamalan can step up and make a legitimately good film again for the sequel.

Sounds great

I'm really rooting for this. I just loved the reference to the BW character in Split.

Shyamalan seems to have finally found his stride again. To say that Split was his best work in years is rather faint praise, but it was actually pretty decent, even without the twist. McAvoy was great in it. The Visit was modest, but solid. It remains to be seen whether or not Shyamalan can keep this momentum going for Glass, but I'm optimistic.

I wouldn't call this an article as more of a cut and paste job. There's nothing mentioned here that would involve someone having the need to see Split.

Awesome news as I don't think there's a sequel I'm more ecited for right now.

I just hoped it would be called Unbroken instead

Problem is there was a recent, fairly well known movie based on a recent best-selling book with that title, so they will probably avoid calling it Unbroken in order to avoid potential confusion.

Hell yes!

I was worried that Mr. Glass was going to merely be a minor character but it's great that he seems to be the main focus based on the title.

Split was already a solid film without the secret twist at the end, but I'm really excited to see more of McAvoy's Dennis since there is so much more exploration to see with the character.

Just don't turn Mr. Glass into a good guy...

Glass will be probably be the Dr. Lector to Willis's character. But Horde is much more interesting and horrifying if they go the direction the movie was supposed end (with Horde about to kill kids in a schoolyard). I don't want to see Glass saving anyone.

I think Mr. Glass will be fascinated by the existence of a physical threat to the Unbreakable Man that he'll want to orchestrate a grudge match between him and the Horde. I don't think there should be an alliance between the two villains just because they're villains.

So I kind of hate to bring this up, it's so disturbing but I was under the impression he was not going to kill the kids but molest them or something else to invoke the trauma he suffered as a child so they could also develop a beast personality later in life. Remember the only reason he let the lead charecter go at the end of the film is because she was "broken" and thus :more evolved". His goal is to create more like him and should make for a really interesting question of how to next one is

Mr. Glass believes his purpose in life is to be the supervillain. I doubt he will turn good.
