You will be entertained by Thor & Hulk in the first Thor: Ragnarok trailer

04.10.2017

It’s finally here! Anyone wanting to see Thor (Chris Hemsworth) bash some alien gladiators and then gasp as Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) eats them is in for a treat! Okay maybe not that last part, but still: THOR: RAGNAROK is here, and be prepared for the funniest final line any teaser or trailer has ever offered.

Are you waiting for me to unhook my bra? Just watch!!

As you saw, RAGNAROK is about how after a little skirmish with Hela (Cate Blanchett) Thor is banished to a new planet where he is taken hostage and forced to battle as a gladiator slave, and it's there he discovers where Hulk has been all this time. Stylistically and musically this trailer looks very "GUARDIANS meets THOR", and I'm sure some folks with the emotional level of a angsty teen will find fault in that, but to that I say go in your room and write sad poetry while the rest of us have the MOST FUN EVER. This trailer has energy off the charts and ends on a hilarious note to boot. This is exactly what the THOR franchise needs, and I'm psyched to see my faith in director Taika Waititi has proven just. I will retreat to my closet alter to pay thanks.

THOR: RAGNAROK arrives November 3.

If there's one thing that DC trailers have taught us is that a trailer can be cut to look one way and the film can end up being something totally different. Now, don't get me wrong, Taika Waititi is a talented guy and I have confidence in him to deliver a solid film, but GotG is Marvel's space movie that made a gazillion dollars so of course they're going to cut the trailer to their other space movie to look similar, that doesn't mean that the actual film be very similar to GotG though. I mean it might, but Waitit's enough of an original that I'm guess the actual film will very much be its own thing.

All of these movie sequels could do with a tonal change

Thor 1 and 2 were too bland and by the numbers. Its refreshing to see him in a more colorful and tonally different movie. Look at how well Captain America movies are made, they all have totally different tones. The first one was a comic book come to life and the second was a political thriller. Iron Man is in need of the biggest change (though we seem to be getting it with Spidey) as he has always been him vs 100 robots or guys in robot suits. All of his movies felt similar.

Well shit! That looks awesome. They basically went full Guardians with it, but the Thor films could use a switch-up. This looks like a damn good time at the movies and the last bit of the trailer is AWESOME. Count me in!

I must be a angsty teen then ...

It's kind of sad that even before people can scroll down and watch the trailer, these guys have the need to defend the obvious GOTG influence. But since it's "its the most fun ever", those who would be critics need to just write sad poetry... I don't mind bias, but the condescending tone just smacks of insecurity with a level of fanboyism reserved for 12 year old die hard Justin Bieber or Beyonce fans. (take your pick)

I'll probably go watch GOTG3, but this feels like Marvel is not only overdoing the "fun" part but now it feels like it has to copy itself. My biggest gripe is that planet Hulk should be a Hulk movie.

I remember when Batman Begins was out at the same time with Tim Story's FF, and I still remember how everyone were praising the "fun" tone of FF...

That Fantastic Four movie was average at best. It was certainly better than its friggin' dumpster fire of a sequel and eons better than the reboot, but I do not recall it being praised. However, Batman Begins deserved its praise. I thought it was well above average and a wee bit better than The Dark Knight.

Last time I heard, Universal still holds the rights to a standalone Hulk movie. Marvel is only allowed to use him if he's together with any or all the Avengers so technically, they're not on Planet Hulk per say and they can take whatever liberties they can.

Eh... I remember TIm's Story Fantastic Four getting panned by critics left and right (hence the 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and Batman Begins popping up on critics top 10 lists.

Also, Kevin Feige has said that they had zero interest in ever doing a straight up Planet Hulk movie, because the thing that makes Hulk interesting is Banner, which I totally agree with. You read Planet Hulk and its "fun" but in a mindless action sort of way, Marvel's movies definitely have their share of

And ActionFan81 is right, Universal owns the rights to doing a solo Hulk film, so even if Marvel wanted to they couldn't.

Well, I don;t remember reading rotten tomatoes back in 2005, but I do remember spending some time at the old WIZARD magazine boards and both the DC and Marvel comics boards (Good ol' days). And it was the same old song and dance, Marvel vs DC and all the buzz back then was that between BB and FF, FF was the fun movie.

What makes the Hulk great is great storytelling, and Planet Hulk has that in spades. I'm not in favor of wasting that story just to hear Thor sound like Dwight from the Office...

Thor seems to finally be getting the scale and much needed fun we've been waiting for. From Hela looking like a three dimensional villain to Goldblum pulling of a Bowie imitation nicely, I'm more excited for this than Justice League which comes out in the same month.

It's interesting reading these comments. I think most people agree that the Thor films so far have been on the weaker end of the MCU films, but still decent. To me, I always thought the Thor films would be a bit better if they were a bit more dramatic, since the comedy felt a bit forced (especially in the sequel). Marvel does comedy very well, but does every film they make need that same feeling? This trailer makes it look fun, which is great. But I wish they'd have taken a different

The only thing I liked about the previous Thor films was the time spent on Asgard. This looks to be the best movie of the three and I will be in theaters for this!

This looks rad. "Immigrant Song" is the perfect song for a Thor trailer although it oddly seemed like maybe it wasn't the perfect fir for *this particular* trailer. Overall, this just confirms my excitement for the film, I just hope that they'll have it naturally arise out of the ending of The Dark World (Loki ruling Asgard posing as Odin), since a few Marvel movies just seem to blatantly ignore what came before (i.e. Tony making a big deal of quitting being Iron Man at the end of Iron Man 3

Thor takes from Guardians style but some of that imagery is going to look beautiful on screen. Lets hope blanchett and give us a good marvel villain but i feel she is going to be placed aside for more loki screen time

While I am excited for this film and it looks like a load of fun. I wish they hadn't actually abandoned THOR. This has almost nothing to do with Thor aesthetic wise. While the first two movies were a bit weak, they had the right "feel". They just needed a solid story Period. I enjoyed the "Game of Thrones'esque" approach to Asgard in Thor 2 and felt that all it needed was some solid direction and storytelling. Now its all been abandoned for a Guardians of the Galaxy angle with Hulk thrown in

The story line its ripped from is super fun. How about this, try some inspired criticism, instead of the boring GOTG obvious comparison.

no im pretty sure he was legitimately mad. He started acting as if he is the utmost authority on Thor when clearly he isn't. I've been reading Thor since I was a little boy in the early 90s. And like I said, I wasnt knocking the film. I made it abundantly clear several times in my post that I was excited and intrigued by this new direction, but that it wasn't what I was expecting and that perhaps maybe I wish they had stuck to the original aesthetic design of the original Thor. I am well aware

This might not how you envision the character but to me it feels much more in-line with how how was actually portrayed in the comics (at least throughout the 60's-90's) than Thor 1, not to mention that it actually centers on what characters taken straight from the comics rather than made up ones like

I know what you mean. I'm a stickler for continuity, so to even see the original THOR font thrown out in the third entry bugs me more than I'd like to admit. Since the first movie I was hoping they'd up the supernatural Viking aspect and keep some of the more Shakesperian dialogue. However if they are going to throw all that out I am happy it's for a balls-to-the-wall, 1980's Masters of the Universe type aesthetic.

Guardians of Asgard?

Unable to make Thor interesting, it looks like they've gone the way of GOTG. I love the HULK, but this looks uninspired. It certainly has lots of colors though. Must be Marvel.

Further proof there is a marvel bias...

DC releases a similar, plotless, rock music filled, "fun" trailer and gets called out (I actually didn't like it either). But then Marvel does this and people rejoice? That's just weird. I liked the first 2 Thor movies... To me, they were the "mystical/fantasy" branch of the Marvel movies. Since when does that include rock music and 80's text graphics? The trailer is fine and has moments that are funny, but do no want to go see a Thor movie just for the one liners.

I don't formally take sides and I don't doubt there's bias, but I think it's because from the start of this movie's conception, Marvel made no secret that it was a buddy comedy with Thor and Hulk and even made a point to hire a comedic director. Both Snyder and DC used to say that, by nature, DC's characters would never ever crack jokes and obviously were swayed by public opinion of BVS to add what they think we want. Logan never felt the need to compromise its vision and was able to have humor

I agree that DC releases rock filled fun trailers, and to be fair the trailers themselves for Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and to a lesser extent Justice League all seem to have been met with pretty positively. I literally don't know a single person who argued before Suicide Squad's release that the trailer wasn't exceptionally well cut together, rather people were skeptical of the quality of the film itself based on the quality of the films that had preceded it. The exact same principle holds

The exact same principle holds true for this trailer. Marvel's over a dozen films into their universe now, they've all had coherent plots and mot of them have emphasized well-drawn characters over mindless action scenes, so viewers have every reason to assume the same will hold true in this film. If you hated Batman v Superman, well JLA looks like more of the same, so you very well might hate it too. If you liked Guardians of the Galaxy than you very well might like this movie too. A lot of people hated Batman v Superman and liked GotG, that's basically what this boils down to.

I really will be interested to see how the box office of the two stack up. My gut instinct would say that the Marvel brand is pure gold with the general public to the point that I could see this putting up a decent fight. However, there's now doubt that JLA is going to at least feel like more of an event movie and have a bigger weekend, if it can score decent reviews and in exit polls then it should have a better multiplier than Batman v Superman and easily beat out Thor. If it gets crappy

I wondered how, after helming relatively low-budget stuff like WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS and HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE, TW would handle a big-budget Marvel movie and whether Marvel could hang with his vision.

At this point, no concerns. This looks like the best THOR movie to date, and may end up being one of Marvel's better movies. I'm officially pumped.

Yes.

This looks way better than I was expecting. This could be the first Thor movie I really like, it looks like fun to me.

Looks like a blast!

I don't believe they are copying GOTG, previous Thor movies had comedic elements as well. This time they got an original comedic director who is really good at what he does and use some the funny parts in the trailer. What a great cast they got for this one!

"YEESSSS!!"

Just when DC's Justice League thought it was safe in the November slot, Marvel decides to bitch-slap then tea-bag them with Thor 3! Hope we wont be Superhero fatigued when JL has its turn after this one because this looks like a total blast!

Totally wouldn't mind paying extra for 3D.

just when DCs justice league thought it was safe? uhh I doubt DC even gives a shit. Both companies are releasing awesome products and your pidgeonholding yourself to only one company because you feel you have some sort of stake in the property which clearly you don't. You aren't making money or benefiting in Disney stocks in any way. So get over yourself pal.

Woah...dude? You really need to lighten up. Of course I don't benefit (..maybe one day) from Disney stocks or whatever but, how is this different from supporting your favourite sports-team? Fine, maybe you gamble, oops! I mean sports-bet but none of those players know you but you still follow them come [Insert: Major Sport Event] and cheer them on.

Anyways, I apologise if my comment hurt your feelings.. ;-)

I'd go farther and say it seems to be copying the tone and colors from GOTG, but it does look badass and I'm really excited for it

Completely out of character, but "I know him from work" is a funny line.
Looks more like Guardians 3 than a Thor film though.

Ha! Looks like fun. Blanchett looks badass and hot at the same time. Love the look on Goldblums' face when Thor yells; "Yes". Also digging the shaved locks on Thor and him finally wearing his helmet!

Awesome trailer and already looks SO MUCH better than the Dark World in terms of everything (especially fun and less earth related scenes). I will say that in terms of solo films, Thor has been the most disappointing (even though the first Thor is one of the best Marvel films to date), so I'm glad to see that this one looks like it lives up to Hemsworth's excellent portrayal of the god of thunder.

But really enjoy the tone and vibrant characters they have for this go around. And Thor and

The most disappointing. Well if this turns out to be a great film, it will be tied with Iron Man imho. The first Thor movie was okay, the 2nd sucked, here's hoping the 3rd will be be successful.

Iron Man 1 was great, 2 sucked, 3 was okay.

The 1st Captain America, was okay, the 2nd was great, and the 3rd was pretty good as well.

All 3 of the Hawkeye/Black Widow films were excellent. :P

Yes

This movie was already one of my most anticipated of the year... somehow it just climbed higher. Jeff. Goldblum.

I gotta say

The tone is all over the place in this trailer. The last line would certainly appeal to the 10 year old in us however with a character who has stories where the fate of the world(s) is at stake, the line just does not fit. Thor should mainly be a serious character when in dire situations, not jovial and cracking jokes like this where it makes him appear to be an imbecile. I will go see it, but not sure where it will fit in with the other films in this series.

You may be jumping to conclusions though. Considering this is a really nice teaser, we don't even know if Thor is aware of what Hela has done. Plus, he could be genuinely happy to see Hulk there, that of all the combatants to fight, he's a friend from work. Besides, without humour, what's the point of saving Asgard?

Wait wut?

So it looks like they are doing something similar to Planet Hulk but replacing Hulk with Thor and then Hulk is just there on the planet already? So was Quinjet he flies away on in Age of Ultron capable of space flight or something?

what do you mean one can hope? they aren't gonna just make a massive leap in logic like that. Back in AOU they said they found the Quinn Jet and it was empty. CLEARLY he was abducted somewhat like Peter Quill. Itll be explained.

It appears like they've taken Thor and splashed GOTG throughout this. Which I have no problem with because the last Thor movie was so bland and boring. Also, Cate Blanchett looks amazing in this .

Laughed hard...

Was thrown off by the GotG vibe but that final line of excitement and "I know him from work" made this a must see for me. Thor and Hulk is such an awesome duo.

Fantastic!

Cate Blanchett looking sinister as hell, Idris Elba and Chris Hemsworth sporting a new 'do, a bald Karl Urban shooting machine guns, and Hulk in his gladiator gear have gotten me pumped up for this movie. This trailer gets kudos points for including the original "Immigrant Song" and not a soulless cover of the tune.

Nope. Not for me.

I didn't dislike the first 2 films; they were flawed but the cast was good and the tone was right. Here, the tone isn't right. This doesn't feel like the comics, even a little, and if it was the first I saw him play the part, I would think that Chris Hemsworth was miscast. I will probably skip this, even if Cate Blanchett's Hela intrigues me.

Hmm, maybe we can just disagree on this one but to me this feels a lot more like the comics (at least how he was portrayed in 60's-90's) then the first Thor movie. To me the first Thor felt the most at odds with the comic version of the character out of any of the MCU films. The Asgard/Nine realms based stuff in the first two films were in the right vein, but all of the earth-based stuff was just slapstick cartoon antics that were a far cry from any Thor comics I've ever read. The bad guy of the week showing up and taking over Asguard, Thor losing Mjolnir and then getting whisked off to fight the Hulk before the inevitable teamup and escape feels like they took the aesthetic from the Walt Simonson-era and then splashed it across a very Stan Lee-feeling story (even though I get its based on an actual much later story I just feel like way they're approaching it feels a lot like the crazy fun over the top villain of the week melodramas that Lee used to write).

Looks great

They're really going full GotG with this one and it looks like they could pull it off. Hope the movie will be as great as the trailer.

Thor 2 lacked fun. Thor 1 was hilarious and well directed and introduced us to the only Marvel villain that's had any development or staying power

I was pretty disappointed with Thor, then I even turned off Thor 2. Im willing to give it a third chance this looks good. I think Chris Hemsworth is great as Thor, the first two movies were just boring to me. You can tell they are taking a bite out of GotG with this marketing

Definitely taking a bit out of GotG in terms of marketing, but the actual footage looks away more like a Thor comic book than anything in Thor 1 or 2.
